People not happy with smart tech

Does anyone actually have a smart toilet?! :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth: :slightly_smiling_face:

No, but I have heard of fancy bidets that have lights and all that. A smart toilet (or bidet) might be crossing the line a bit.

Smart toaster and other things are quite odd to tell you the truth. You have to load the bread, so why not just press the button while you are standing there. Same for the smart microwave, you have to load the popcorn in, so why shout "Alexa Popcorn" when you can just push the button labeled popcorn?

I bet a significant number of these 74% unhappy with smarthome people are using crappy wifi devices that are no smarter than a 30 year old Clapper.

With my luck it would get hacked, and look like that septic tank scene from Meet the Parents.

No, but this past weekend my wife and I went to a Japanese restaurant and she came back from the bathroom, excited about the Toto heated toilet. They seem very cheaply made with a plastic seat and lid, not nearly as sturdy as our toilets, which have heavy wooden seats and lids.

They are expensive...my neighbor got one, I think he said he paid $500 for it, got it about five or six years ago so now the same model is probably going fo $800.

I don't spend enough time w/my toilet to warrant spending that amount on it. I figure he must spends hours each day with his.

I can hear your neighbor now.

  • Alexa, flush #2
  • Alexa, CODE BROWN!!!

LOL

Maybe he is a Howard Hughes germaphobe type?

Classic example of one media outlet interpreting the results of a survey through different lenses. If you read the summary of the folks who ran the survey, you would think they talk about a different survey:

Yup - preconceived story lines that don't depend too much on the actual data are way too common.

Also, last I remember, 900 people in the US is not exactly a large percentage... There's every chance we'd have more American's here on the Community....

I have this one and it's damned fantastic...

I have one also but alas no remote. After all I'm kinda stuck in one place until I'm done with it. Could be fun though for unsuspecting house guests.

A fancy bidet toilet in our master bathroom is something my wife and I have wanted for a while, but getting power over to the wall is going to be annoying, so I've been putting it off.

After watching that I feel like I now know more about you than I ever expected to.

I have a Bio-Bidet, and I have to admit I'm pretty fond of it, we've had some special moments, she and I.

So it would be even worse than this?

Hey, nothing wrong with comfort!!!! That said, given how fastidious most americans are to cleanliness (and face it we probably have the worlds most germaphobes) that the bidet really has not been adopted much here like in Europe. I mean, it definitely is more clean and it wastes far less paper and when done right less water. Strange indeed.

I've had BioBidets for about 8 years now. When they fail, I'm going with the Alpha JX. Much faster water heating.

If you are interested in more history around that...just happened to listen to this podcast a while back, pretty interesting:

And via Spotify:

Interesting...makes me feel like I'm not spending enough time w/my Bio Bidet, but I've never run out of hot water w/it.

I do like the LED light on the JX. I don't like remotes on Bidets. Tried one w/a remote briefly and returned it to get one w/the built-in control panel. I didn't like having something I had to find/pickup/hold in my hand. A built-in control panel is always right where I left it and I can just tap a button.

Forgot - I did suggest mounting the remote on the side of the vanity but WAF was zero on that.
