What does this optional Z-Wave Firmware update 7.23.4 for C-8 and C-8 PRO do or provide?
Is this something we should do?

This is what silicon labs changed / improved:
**** UPDATE **** Z-Wave Firmware update 7.23.4 has been removed from the 2.4.4 release
We’ve temporarily limited this update to C-8 Pro hubs only, as we’ve received a few incident reports from C-8 hub owners. Once we have more time to test and validate the update on the C-8 hubs, we may re-enable the update for those devices.
The Release Notes have been updated to reflect this change. Apologies for the confusion, and thank you for your understanding.
Well I updated my 8 pro. Fingers crossed all will be good.
If your Z-Wave devices are showing up in Z-Wave Details, then you are fine
The wording of "optional" is a bit confusing.
I thought with Hubitat updates, it is all or nothing. Meaning you can't pick exactly what features/improvements/firmwares in an update to apply or not apply.
Meaning if I update to 2.4.4.130 then I will also update the Z-wave firmware to 7.23.4.
However, the wording makes it sound like I can install the update to install every new feature/improvement except for the 7.23.4 Z-wave firmware.
The wording is correct. Because the radios use independent hardware and firmware, they can be updated separately from the core platform.
When a radio firmware update includes security patches, or is required for a new feature introduced with a platform update, our engineers may configure the update to be applied automatically.
If the update is optional, an Update Firmware button will be available on the corresponding Details page (Z-Wave or Zigbee).
How do I move from 7.23.1 to 7.23.4?
Am I assuming the firm addresses Z-Wave and Zigbee?
Thanks.
??
We never released a 7.23.1.. So if you are on 7.23, it's 7.23.4..
It's Z-Wave firmware.. Nothing to do with the separate Zigbee chip..
I don't know where it pulls this tidbit from within the hub, but Hub Info Driver reports Zwave Version as 7.23.1...
Interesting.. But we only report 7.23, because that's all we get back, so the .1 must be coming from the driver..
Weird...hub info doesn't give me any ".1" on the ZWave Version on C8-Pro:

...wait for it...does give .1 on C8:

Interesting difference, @bcopeland?
That is interesting!
Shortly after the update was released, I remember someone else posted a shot of theirs where it was 7.23.1 too -- that's the only reason I ever bothered to notice mine was that too.
My shot above is from an 8-Pro (my only hub)
Still not coming from us.. Must be in driver somewhere.. ![]()
Am I correct in thinking that if I'm happily using Z-WaveJS , the optional Z-Wave firmware update will have no effect? Or is their some type of behind the scenes code co-mingling between the two?
I've always thought JS and Zip were two completely different sets of code to run Z-Wave.
ZW Chip Firmware -> JS or Zip -> Hubitat Code
The firmware update works for both JS and Zip..
Thank you for the clarification, makes sense.
So just curious. On one of my c8 pros I did the zwave FW update and the table is now empty. It says zwave is enabled but off line. I did shutdown and removed power and then rebooted. Is there a recovery option that works?

Something tells me you just bought or were granted a brand new hub thanks to more brilliant work from our friends at Silicon Labs.
