Was wondering if I could use an old iPad as a dashboard but can’t download the app not compatible any suggestions?
You can just use safari to browse to a dashboard you’ve created, since every dashboard has its own URL.
This might be a good thread to ask this. I use Amazon Fire tablets running Fully kiosk browser for my around the house dashboard displays. I’d like to start substituting old iPads to do the same. As far as I know, Fully doesn’t run on iPad.
Does anyone know of something similar to do on iPad? The goal is to have something that starts the browser upon startup full screen. Ideally, it should use the camera to detect motion and blank the screen when there is no one looking at it.
I think that HD+ is getting here for iPads and Windows.
I have been testing The Home Remote app recently (free or like a one-time $3-$5 charge depending on the platform to get rid of the nag banner). So far I really like it... It seems more stable than Apple Home, and while it is somewhat rudimentary, it's not AS basic or aesthetically unpleasing as the native Hubitat dashboards. I do keep a Hubitat master dashboard for when everything else fails. They usually still work.
What do you find to be unstable about Apple Home?
I use an iPad by loading the dashboard in safari using the web ui of hubitat, and then create a desktop shortcut. The desktop shortcutwhen opened removes the address banner off the page. I also use a kiosk app that I paid a few dollars for so that the app always reverts back to the front page after x seconds and that the top banner is completely removed. Guided access is also useful to lock down the app so it can’t be exited by pressing the home button.
check this thread as this is what I was going through at the time.
hope this helps in some way
Cheers

I have had it going no response a lot lately. Some time just a wave, some times just matter, sometimes just certain specific zwave device. A few days later it’s all fine again. Losing a lot of patience from my wife as she feel she never knows if it will work or not it.
Another month or so and Apple home has gone completely unstable again. I’m really getting tired of having to constantly add and remove the HomeKit bridge all the time. Apple home hs gotten to be so unreliable. It’s not a hubitat thing per se, it’s an apple thing. My Aqara and Nanoleaf bridges are doing the same thing. Aqara is cameras, not sensors or oath devices.
I am not seeing/experiencing that at all. I send my Hubitat devices over to Homebridge using the Homebridge v2 app. Everything has been super stable for quite some time now. My Aqara U400 lock works perfectly paired to Apple Home, and the UWB handsfree unlocking is simply a game changer. My Hue devices also have zero issues when paired to Apple Home. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I do run beta firmware on my Apple devices and in Hubitat.
That could be the difference; I'm not using HomeBridge (yet), just the HomeKit Bridge. But even my Aqara devices go wonky all the time, as do the Nanoleaf Matter over thread devices. Sometimes it just feels like playing whack-a-mole. It's gotten to the point I'm looking at other dashboards and using Home Assistant with a Thread dongle and just ditching Apple Home altogether. I may just be grumpy today, but I really do get tired of babysitting Apple Home and constantly adding and removing and re-adding hubs and bridges all the time.
Gotta be honest. I haven’t had any real issues with Homekit. (7 homepod minis, 1 full sized home pod and an Apple TV). The only thing that bugs me when doing an intercom it picks up in another room instead of the one I’m talking to. Other than that the integrations with hubitat and thread and matter have been fine.
I’ve never found the Apple Home app to be unstable.
I don’t know what it is. About every two months everything goes un-responsive. The only way I can get them to work again is to remove everything and start over. I don’t think it is a hubitat thing specifically as I have the same issue with the Nanoleaf bulbs. With about 8 of those having to remove and factory reset, repair , pair to home kit, then to hubitat it is getting a bit old, and is really drawing down my WAF points. I’ve been experimenting with The Home Remote and HD+ and both seem to be stable and continue to work, even when Apple goes u responsive, even the matter devices.
What are you using as a Home hub?
AppleTV. I believe it’s a Appe TV 4k 3rd generation, it’s model A2843. I don’t have the box any more. it a 2022 model I believe. I actually have two. One WiFi only and one that has a Ethernet port (though it’s on WiFi currently until I can get cables run).
