Every time I get a notification I just laugh and wonder why I put up with it for so long.

Haha, true, that's the way I try to migrate my friends.
Also, if you are getting them via e-mail there is a link at the bottom that you can use to unsubscribe.
Ohh ... so enticing to turn them off ...
