New product coming soon from Ring - indoor security drone camera

it would be neat if we could control it via Hubitat :smile:

Early/late April fool..? :thinking::smirk:

:joy: Exactly what I thought, first thing I did is check the date of the publication just in case! :rofl:

Also announced a device for your car and one for your mailbox.

Looks like it is very real. Lots of news stories on it. $250.

If you have a feline at home it could wind up being a very expensive cat toy with a short lifespan.

What a fun toy! Pricey though. Hope it doesn't crash into one of my ceiling fans. It would be kind of cool to check up on my dog. But too expensive for me.

Seems a bit restricted. At first I was eager, but reading how many restrictions they've programmed in, to ensure it's not regarded as a privacy intrusion, it seems most of the fun has been drained out of it. For a start, it can't be remote controlled in realtime, you have to walk it around the circuit you want it to fly, and it repeats that circuit each time you activate it. It has a 5 minute flying time limit and I also read something about it not being able to go to another floor in your home. Presumably it has elevation restrictions.

My 2 bengal cats would destroy that the 1st (or 2nd at most) time that thing took off.

While I would love to play with this there are 3 strikes against it before it even gets to the plate:

  1. WAF for it is zero
  2. My cat can almost touch the ceiling from a standing jump (he gets to about 7'9" in a house with 8' ceilings) so this wouldn't last more than a couple of minutes
  3. Cost for this "toy" could send the WAF into negative territory

If this could connect to Hubitat in some way, I would be interested. Though I absolutely would not want the data to go to the Ring cloud. I refuse to install their doorbell for that reason. I'm also not a huge fan of the Arlo cameras I have, and looking into moving it all local. Really don't want anything cloud-focued. Hell that's the entire reason I moved to Hubitat from ST in the first place.

:rofl: Sometimes I wonder, particularly when he jumps down on me from the top of a 7' bookcase playing tag...
