Storm last night. I was up due to a dog that gets very nervous.
Anyway, Had a power outage that lasted about a minute. My hub/router/modem are all on UPS. So they stayed on. Obviously the cable company equipment isn't as once the power came back on the internet was still down.
Tried to open the new IOS app on my phone to turn off a bulb that always comes on after a power outage. The app wouldn't open. Just showed a blank screen. Closed, swiped off, etc. Tried several times. Turned cellular data off. Still no luck. Had to resort to the truly local option, turn off switch at lamp.
My hub was working just fine as motion lighting, etc. still worked. Used Keypad to turn off alarm. Surprisingly the Airplay Integration still worked as my Pod announced the alarm was off.
Internet came back up about 15 minutes later. As soon as it did the app on the phone started right back up.
Any thoughts on why it won't work if internet down?
I didn't try it from a pc. But I don't believe the router was blocking, or had anything shut down. My phone was connected to the router and I was able to connect to non-hub related. And the fact that the airplay integration still worked would indicate that not being the case.
Pull your internet connection (obviously keep the router on) and try getting to it from a PC. If you can get to it from your PC your issue is at the phone level. If you can't it's at your router.
Homekit still worked without internet. I can understand it not working after a power outage as the pods needed to call home I suppose and couldn't do that with the internet down. But now if I kill the internet, it still works. But HE's app doesn't.
What really concerns me about this. I can figure out ways around it to get things to work. But if I'm not here and the missus needs to turn off or on a light, etc. I will be asked to throw it out the door once I get home.
