Need Z-wave help. Inclusion fails

I think this is still the appropriate process... Presumably Jeff will comment if otherwise.

Thank you. My 1 concern is problems resetting currently working devices. Or rather not being able to reset currently working devices. Is that known to be a problem?

The vast majority of my zwave devices are:
Inovelli switches (various)
Ring contact sensors
zooz leak detectors
first alert smoke detectors

Though this will also give me a great excuse to finally swap out some of my older inovelli switches.

I don't have any of those devices so not up to speed on their reset processes. However, their reset steps can usually be found via web search, and also many of them are documented here...scroll the list of compatible devices to the right to show the "Instructions" column:

Take a careful look at the instructions I linked to ... will save you from a much more painful experience than just diving in.

When you start to re-add devices build your new mesh out from your hub(s), mains powered repeaters first, then battery powered.

Good tip!

What hub version do you have?

C8-Pro, latest firmware using ZWaveJS

Just dropped in...
The battery devices have to be woken up.

Looking at your original Zwave details you posted, your RSSI values seem terrible. Where is your hub located? Have you tried moving it away from any sources of interference?

I think those instructions of mine should still be mostly relevant. Some steps might be slightly different if Hubitat has changed things.

Once the radio is reset you can just "exclude" devices to get them ready to pair again, you do not have to factory reset them.

I can try moving it. It's in the same place it's always been, but it is only a few feet from my Wi-Fi access point. I can put some more space between the two of them.

what are "good" values?

Have you tried switching to z-wave JS, shutting down hub, pull power for 1 minute, power back up, waiting 2 mins and then trying to remove the ghosts? Z-wave JS seems to be better at that.

I've been on Z-waveJS since the C8-pro started supporting it. The built in ghost removal has not worked for me. I've tried extensively. Does doing it shortly after a cold boot matter?

do the unplug power for 1 minute first, that may help as that clears the radio 1st. Also disconnect battery or power to the devices that created the ghosts.

From Google:
A good Z-Wave RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) is generally between -30 dBm and -60 dBm (excellent) to -70 dBm (strong). Signals between -70 dBm and -80 dBm are considered moderate, while anything below -90 dBm is considered too weak, likely causing slow responses or disconnection.

My worst (excluding one anomaly) is ~56, my hub is also about 1ft from my router and inches away from two mini-PCs sitting on a wood shelf. I think metal is what causes the most issues, and also people have noted that network switches seem to be problematic (maybe due to all the metal).

Yes that can help, to be sure the radio is not jammed up with whatever other chaos you have going on. If you have any devices that might be very chatty you could also try powering them off (power meters, very active sensors, etc...)

I moved my Unify AP a little further away last night. Was 1.5ft, now 6ft. This already appears to have helped my delay issues, but those would come and go. I need more time to actually confirm. I haven't tried inclusion/exclusion again since.

It is sitting on a wire shelf about 3ft. from an 8-port switch. Tonight I'll try to relocate it off the wire shelf and further from that switch.

Most of my zwave devices are in the -70 to -90 range (most longe range) which would be less than ideal but all my automations work and are fast. Trying to keep my OCD from tinkering after this thread

The battery devices have to be woken up.

I assume they need to be woken up to reset/repair them. Was there more to this statement?

Also..... Moving my AP did help the responsiveness and my RSSI values, but I still can't include exclude. So I'm going nuclear and starting the process of resetting my z-wave radio and starting over. Thanks everyone for the guidance.

Wish me luck!

Do not skip this step if you are using my instructions

Already done with that part

I just reset the radio and rebooted.

What did you (@jtp10181 ) mean by:

confirm z-wave details is clear.

?

After the Radio reset and reboot, my Zwave details still has all my nodes, but they look like this:

Notice the device column is empty. Is that what's expected?
