I have C5 running my Zigbee network and a C7 running my Zwave network. I'll be trying to migrate the C7 over since that's the hub that runs all my apps and rules. My question is will I be able to migrate my C5 zigbee network separately after the C7 to have both zigbee and zwave on the C8? If so I know I'll probably have to go back and get rid of hub mesh or maybe even change things before migrating?
You cannot combine databases from multiple hubs, so for the automatic process. This is true whether you use the cloud option with the radios too or do it locally with just the database. So, you'll have to pick one hub. Then, you'll effectively have to do the other hub manually.
Might just be worth Starting Fresh but I'm definitely going to go through the migration process first just to see how smooth or not it goes.
Defiintely easy enough that you'd want to migrate whichever hub has the greater number of devices, and/or the most complcated integrations to set up. A realy time-saver....
I'm just trying to think of everything I'll have to change anyways apps wise. I run Homebrdige and using hub mesh for all my zigbee devices. I might just migrate over the C7 then migrate the C5 to the C7 that way everything pretty much stays the same and use the C5 at my business. Do you know if there's any benefit to using separate hubs for zwave and Zigbee? I can't even remember why I run two hubs in the first place lol
Separating the load might help if you have a large number of devices, but the hub CPU/memory is rarely overloaded and the radios are separate so don't know that it really makes much difference. It might help if your Z-Wave or Zigbee devices are biased in their location to one part of the house vs another, you could put the hub w/Zigbee closer to Zigbee devices, etc.
More often I've seen devices on one hub, cloud & wi-fi, etc., automations on the other hub.
I have two hubs (three actually now, w/the C-8) but laziness has resulted in 99% of my stuff still on my main (now C-8) hub, and no issues w/responsiveness, etc.
lol same here
@shawnx1 What may help so you don't have to run around everywhere is after your migration turn the z-wave radio off on the old hub, make sure that the c5 and c8 are on different zigbee channels. Then as you remove zigbee devices, most will go into automatic pairing mode where you can now just run zigbee pairing on the c8 and it will include without you having to reset and re pair it. This worked for me transferring hubs last year. Out of 60 or 70 devices I only had 4 that I had to factory reset... Rest just paired.
Oh wow, thank you for that information! That priceless info I can't even remember where all my Zigbee devices are.
That's why I use the rooms field on the device page when I do things, that way I know where everything is
oh man, I was wondering what use I could get from that rooms section. Yep I'm lazy with the Smart-home stuff
I run The C5 on channel 21 I forget why I picked this channel, I do remember I was having zigbee problems until I switched to channel 21. Do you know of a good alternative channel to set the C8 to? I live in a city with lots of wifi Networks I think that's why I had to change the channel years ago maybe that had something to do with it.
One last question, All I need to do is remove zigbee devices from the C5 and they might start auto pairing with the C8?
There is a recommended set of channels in the Zigbee Home Automation profile document; without profiling the traffic in your vicinity, it's probably best to pick from one of these since the devices are supposed to scan them first when joining/rejoining:
"Preferred Channels (11, 14, 15, 19, 20, 24, 25)
When forming a new network, or scanning to join a network, HA devices should
do channel scans using the above channel mask before scanning the rest of the
channels in order to avoid the most commonly used WiFi channels. This is to
improve the user experience during installation (quicker joining) and possibly
improve bandwidth (on average)."

You'll need to reset them before they will go into pairing mode on the C-8. Usually there's a button to be held down while re-inserting a battery (or plugging in an AC powered device).
I keep Wi-Fi on 1-6 and Zigbee on 20-25.
If you remove them from the coordinator, a lot of devices will go into pairing mode. This saved me a lot of time with 60+ Zigbee devices (36 window contacts alone). Out of all of them I only had to reset 4 devices
Interesting; I don't think I've seen that behavior with the stuff I own (talking C5 -> C8 non-migration here). Maybe the newer stuff is different; I'd expect the battery devices would die pretty quickly if they were removed, stuffed in a drawer and left scanning for a rejoin without explicitly starting one.
I dunno about age. I have about 10 or so iris v2 motion sensors and they all went into pairing on removal
@shawnx1 I am in the same boat as you wanting to consolidate two separate hubs into one where Zwave and Zigbee are on different C7s today. I have seen your posts about having Hue Motion issues and curious if this is the only issue you are having with Zigbee or are there others? In other words are your non-Hue motions working ok?
I haven't even booted up my C8 yet given the issues raised on the community in the past week and will likely hold off until its addressed. I have 100 zigbee devices to migrate and don't want to have to do this multiple times.
I wasn't aware of @rlithgow1's trick of removing them from the current hub to force into pairing so will have to give that a try as it will save me loads of time.
All my sensors including both my Hue outdoor sensors are working fine...
Glad to hear not everyone is affected. In the C8 - losing connection to Zigbee device (Hue Outdoor Motion Sensor there are many people experiencing issues. I have one outside that will require a ladder to reach to a bit hesitant on migrating to the C8 until this is fixed.
