Lowe’s Clearance Sale including some Iris devices

Nice—I wasn't aware of that. The prices online in ND and in store don't often match up, so it's nice to know that I can order online if I see something. :cowboy_hat_face:

Ugh. I don't need more motion sensors, but for $15 I had to get at least one of the v2 (or 2.1?) sensors before they're all out. The v3 hasn't earned my trust yet.

Free shipping with MyLowe's, BTW (which is also free). Their online inventory doesn't match up (see: last year's Lightify clearance), but we'll see what happens with my order.

The v3 works just fine, the question is if they last, in other words, how good is the manufacturers process

Yesterday I got 5 contacts for a friend in my nearest store, they had them in stock and they called me to pick them up, first time this happens.

What difference, other than cosmetic, is there between the motion v2 and v3?

It's a totally different manufacturer. The v2 sensors were made by CentraLite. The new ones are made by the obviously equally well-known company "iMagic by Great Star." There are also additional non-cosmetic differences, including a larger battery (CR123A vs. CR2) and range/field-of-view differences I summarized in another post in this thread: New Iris Motion Sensor? Version / Generation 3?

Everyone I've seen say anything about them so far has said they work well, though they haven't been out long enough to gauge long-term reliability.

Agree with your thinking on this. The V2 Iris motion comes pretty close to being my ideal Zigbee device (random QC duds aside) given its tiny footprint, great overall performance and ability to go more than a year between battery changes when (ab)used outdoors. I was so in love with it I ran out to buy a couple more when I saw that its replacement had been introduced.... exactly the day before the 50% price drop. Glad Lowe's didn't give me a hassle when I took them up on their 30 price protection policy.

I went to 2 local Lowes today to look for the motion sensor. The first one was supposed to have 4, but after a quick search and finding nothing, they decided they were stolen. They did have the Orbit smart hose timer on clearance for $28. I asked for a discount, and they sold me 2 for $28. The next Lowes was supposed to have 1 motion sensor, but there was none. They did have Lutron wall mount Picos on 90% clearance, from $23.95 each, now $2.39 each. I bought the whole box of 5 ($13 with tax).

No motion sensors, but I got some other good deals.

Impressive discount on the wall-mount kit! (That's obviously super cheap even for just the included remote, to say nothing of the bracket and wall plate.)

I never made it to Lowe's (might if they still show on-sale inventory this week), but I did try to order a $15 motion sensor online. I got an e-mail staying that my merchandise was delayed and to contact them if I want to keep it, which I did. We'll see how this plays out--hopefully better than last year around this time when I tried the same with the Osram/Lightify products and this went on for weeks before they finally decided to cancel the order (though for the bulbs and anything besides the dimmer/remote, I'd consider that a blessing in disguise  ).

Picked up a bunch of the Iris sensors. Man these Iris Motions are very sensitive. I had one at the top of my stairs way up in the corner and it still detected motion as I walked by the bottom, I was not even on the bottom stair!

The problem I have now is its too sensitive that I could not find a place to put it to get the stairs but not detect motion when someone walked by them at the bottom.

Also I did notice that all the sensors that I opened were all "L" not "L2"

Have you tried the tape trick? I've heard some success stories of blocking part of the sensor to make it less sensitive...

Ill have to try it out thanks.

I have to say though I do like how small these sensors are.

Mike mentions a tube.

I got the same initial email and replied letting them know I still wanted my order. Just got an email now saying they would never be in stock again so my order was cancelled.

Bummer!

The tape trick works...trust me! I got tired of the cats setting off the motion sensors when they got wound up at night so I taped off the bottom half of the domes and no more hall lights on/off/on/off.

I still have to do more testing but what I found for some reason was either the sensor picked up when I walked past the stairs at the bottom or when I added some tape it didn't pick up until basically I was at the top stair. So it was either too much or not enough. I may just need to cut the tape at a specific angle to get it to work right.

I haven’t done this for any of my indoor motion sensors, but I have a Blink XT camera outside with a PIR motion sensor that got a lot of false alerts until I covered part of the sensor with electrical tape. It took quite a bit of trial and error before it was working how I wanted, so I’d suggest just keep trying.

I was in a local store this morning and they had the $115 Iris Automation pack on clearance for $15:

I found it in the Iris section. I stopped by another store and the price was $115 so this could be a store by store clearance. Worth checking though!
