Long Range Ghost?

@support_team , is there anything that can be done about this ghost?
@bcopeland ?

It's annoying to see it in the z-wave details list.
It's not going away by itself, for sure, and discover and refresh do nothing.
I think something should be able to be done to remove this persistent long range ghost.
Thanks.

It would sure be nice if @support_team or @bcopeland could respond to this.

Even with a perfunctory "we realize it's an issue and are working on it; solution has no ETA".

Tried adding several LR devices at same time.
All it got me was a bunch of lr ghosts and an inoperative Z-wave net.
I'm trying deleting the devices I was attempting to add from SmartStart.
Hopefully that'll free up the z-wave net.
If so, I'll try smartstarting one at a time, cycling the breaker, including it before moving on to another device.
If not, the lr ghosts will be a factor and I'm screwed.

The circuits upstairs are organized as such:
1-upstairs lights
2-MBR outlets
3-GBR outlets
4-Office outlets

I installed 14 in wall switches. 3 outlet switches and 11 light switches.

Even with only trying to pair one device of the 11 light switches, as chosen in SmartStart, it would repeatedly fail, bringing down the entire z-wave.

I was able to easily pair the 3 outlet switches, one per circuit. One at a time.

I believe tomorrow I will remove a wire from each of the light switches, minus one, and see how that works. Hey, there's only 11, lol.

This should have been spelled out in the documentation. Rolling out an LR system requires a lot of stair climbing and breaker flipping.

Oh, and on topic, I'm up to 8 ghosts at this point.

edit: It's locking up again. Perhaps those ghosts are a factor after all.

hi- I'm having a similar issue with LR ghost. How did you end up resolving?

As I recall, installing ZWJS allowed them to be removed.
I'm on a C8-Pro though, which I think you need to have to run ZWJS.
I wouldn't recommend installing ZWJS if you could help it, because it caused some devices to report state incorrectly, and reverting back to ZIP gave me heartburn. I also feel ZIP is somewhat more 'snappy'.
Because of LR's spoke and wheel nature, ghosts shouldn't be a problem.

Yes! Z-WaveJS is generally much better at allowing removing ghosts via the hub's "Refresh/Remove" process than ZipGateway. A nice benefit. Also more reliable/faster in general at adding/excluding devices, and including multiple devices in a row more reliably.

Yup, Z-WaveJS is only officially supported by Hubitat on the C8-Pro. You can install/run Z-WaveJS via an endpoint on a C8, but not recommended as a daily driver due to the load Z-WaveJS places on a hub.

Switching to Z-WaveJS on a C8-Pro or C8 to remove ghosts is a useful option that multiple users have reported success with, but there is always potential for some YMMV results and might not remove all ghosts.

I have tried Z-WaveJS multiple times on my C8-Pro and C8 since Z-WaveJS initial release, and switching back and forth never caused me any problems for me w/the ZipGateway side, all my issues had been w/Z-WaveJS.

The last time I switched to Z-WaveJS a month or so ago to give it another try, it did require a couple days for devices to settle in, and I had to trigger many of them individually (and re-join a couple) to get them to report. After a few more recent updates from HE I'm happy to say that Z-WaveJS is running smoothly/reliably on my C8-Pro, devices are reporting correctly, and automations are as fast or faster than ZipGateway was. So I'm now a happy camper.

I had a device that 'disappeared' from the z-wave status page, as well as some non responsive devices when I went back to ZIP. I'd suggest try cycling every device as possible, as well as exercising rules. I might not have discovered the issues for a while if I hadn't.
My recent journey:

Thank you all for the info. I read a few other threads on the process to switch over to JS, seems like I could handle, may have a few things to sort out, most seem to find it not too much of a headache. Few questions for the group:

1.) Since my ghost is LR, does not impact setup since does non mesh (may not have right terms here). I'm all for if it ain't broken, don't fix it, but also my OCD is looking at the ghost...so I guess if JS is the new norm and future state of Zwave, should I just make the change anyways? Maybe I clear up the ghost, maybe I don't.

2.) @velvetfoot - when you had the LR ghost(s), were you able to add other LR devices? If not, then I think i'm in the camp to switch over to JS.

3.) @bcopeland was taking a peek at the logs, so I'll still wait for an update before moving forward.

Thanks

Yes, I was.

This! ^^^ Absolutely. He's the HE Z-Wave man...
