Let's talk 3D printers!

Well that sounds non-ideal. Lol

I'm out of town, I guess I'll see when I get home tomorrow night if I have a "bonus print".

lol, that’s quite the bug!

Yep I woke up to my extruder cover halfway off, luckily it notified me when trying to start another print it was off and I didn't damage anything. Also, I had a print running overnight and it was oddly unharmed. Suppose I got lucky nothing got damaged!

It sucks it happened, but it looks like they are taking all the right steps here to correct their problem. Sucks for those who saw damage from it, even if they get free replacement parts they will have to spend time fixing their printer. Hopefully they fix the problems on their end of the cloud offering, and improve the LAN mode capabilities so users can solely use the printer locally if they desire. Good to see them taking steps in the right direction though!

Makes me glad I did not purchase a printer dependent on the cloud, much like why I went with Hubitat Elevation. I learned from my Lowe's Iris experience that the cloud is less than reliable.

I love my Bambu printer in terms of features and print quality, BUT I do wish they would get full local feature parity with the cloud.

Well, the AI string detection is likely cloud only, but I don't really care much about that.

For the record, though, I did not get a "bonus print" in this latest issue.

Well it isn't fully dependent on the cloud to clarify. You can always use MicroSD if you want, but that can be a hassle of having to always pull the card to load prints. They do have a LAN only mode, but I'm not sure everything that entails as I don't use it. It also sounds like it's going to be improved to offer more features locally, given their recent cloud issues.

I mainly use the cloud for the convenience of uploading remotely from the slicer, and the notifications from the app to know when it pauses, or when a print completes. Nice when I have a backlog of printing to do, and am doing things around the house not near the printer. Also nice to check the Livestream every now and then to make sure there aren't any issues with the print as it's running. I will say in my experience of ownership for the last 3-4 months, there hasn't been any real cloud issues I've noticed that have prevented me from printing either.

I definitely understand the cloud hate, I feel like most of us Hubitat users do. I have chosen to use it as it overall benefits me with using the printer, and for the most part haven't really had issues with it. I'm also happy the company came out and said they are actively working to improve it.

I think the only thing putting the printer into LAN only mode breaks is the connectivity with the Bambu Handy app. Possibly causing problems if the printer and Bambu slicer are on different networks, but that depends on the network config. There's now a local srstp stream that you can hook into.

I have an integration on here for getting printer status and what-not via MQTT.

The other thing about cloud integration is that there are things I would need to know.

Where are the servers located?
What permissions are required?
Does the application open back-doors into one's system?
How is privacy/security guaranteed?

The Bambu cloud requirement (almost since not all features are available without the cloud) is pretty much the only thing holding me back from buying one. When/If they finally realize that this handicap is holding back many buyers, I hope they will abandon the cloud all together, it's a printer, it has no need to be connected to the internet for it to work locally with all it's features including camera monitoring within the local network!!!

Which features are those?

Firmware updates, phone app control, camera monitoring, spaghetti detection among others.

Firmware updates would be nice. I have the controls and cameras in HA, so don't even use the app anymore.

I converted a Ender 3 into a Voron Switchwire, does a much better job, with a little cost.

best chamber humidity I ever reached was ~25% rH

Yeah, I just baked a spool for 12 hours and 26 rH was as low as I could get. With a desiccant jar in the dry box I built, the filament performed ok. But 18 would be better. I'll put your mod on my roundtuit list. Thanks.

ION, I've switched almost entirely to petg (Duramic) and have been getting it dialed in on the last few small projects. I am having some trouble with small model adhesion on the pei plate, even with a brim and glue.

Also, my nozzle has started to drool during warm-up and homing using either pal or petg. This causes a lot of stringing. I've jury-rigged a fix by putting small velcro dots (hook side) on the purge line to scrub the nozzle. It is working well.

Sorry, but I don't quite understand what you did from the pictures and description. I don't see any physical before/after difference between the pics. Clearly an "it's me, not you" situation. Can you add a little more detail or pics?

Confused in Pookeepsie

I've also seen people mount a small wire brush head from Harbor Freight off to the side and add the code to run the print head through it. I thought that was interesting, but not interesting enough for me to spend the time to do this myself. lol
