My wife wishes she had a handy-guy like you around to do wood-working. Not an area of strength for me, unfortunately for her.

One issue I wonder about w/the printed play table is the resonance and rebound when you use it. Kind of a "how woody does it feel/respond/sound" experience question.

Woody filament is popular, though most noobs seem to only print Baby Groot with it, hhh.

Guess I'll need a hardened nozzle if I'm going to try it at some point. I'll have to review that vid that @anon47916022 linked to above for more eddication. :slight_smile: IRRC he wasn't a big fan of the wood PLA...

The Anker is new on the market and parts are scarce, still. I just ordered 2 hardened nozzles from aliexpress --not that I'm drawn to woody pla, I'm just being lazy and hoping to slow down nozzle changing.

YOU should order on of those $100 diamond nozzles! That's nuts!

Unless you're willing/able to protect me from my wife's "scary eyes" (as we've dubbed them) there is no way I'm ordering a $100 nozzle. :slight_smile:

I was also thinking during this filament discussion that changing to a hardened nozzle (i.e., using it full-time) would be a good way to go to to make things simpler when changing filaments, assuming there isn't any downside from using it all the time.

So begs a question, which hardened nozzle? There are a LOT!

Just realized I have no idea how to determine what size/version nozzle my printer uses, or if they are all pretty much the same. I know the stock nozzle is .4 diameter. More reading needed. :slight_smile:

Went to change the filament this morning and the filament wouldn’t advance or retract. I guess I get to take the thing apart and see what’s up.

They are most definitely not. All/mostly all are same threads, but there are a few different lengths depending on the heater block style used.

Definitely recommended. Block cools weird/too fast without insulation. Of course you can get away with it sometimes if you aren't pushing "max speeds" through your setup.

EDIT: Depending on how well aimed your part cooling fan ducts are... If they blow too much on the block it can cause cooling/heating/melting issues too (without insulation on the block).

Was the hotend hot? Can't pull it cold (usually).

Are you using the "change filament" option on the display? That should automatically back up the filament to help w/pulling it out.

I had the same problem this morning and I've toted my printer to my grandkids' house to show them some gee-whiz STEM stuff. (You can't do 3d well without math.) ...And I somehow left the nozzle tools at home. Anyway, I heated it up and pulled the feeder tube out of the extruder. Then I found a piece of broken filament stuck in the extruder gear. Got that out, heated it some more, then pushed in the filament by hand while hitting the extrude button. Worked! I'm printing spool cradles now.

Usually a sign that some filament is stuck in the heat break interface prob due to leakage and doesn't get hot enough to melt fully.

You will need to disassemble the hot end. Did you check the throat/nozzle was properly tightened out of the box? Never trust the factory to get this done properly 100% of the time.

I tried the filament change options and the gears spun back but the filament didn’t move.

I watched the video on the Sovol website but it is for a SV01. I thought I had everything loosened up and the hot end could slide out but something is holding it from the bottom. Are there any videos of the SV05 hot end being disassembled?

They are helpful and can decrease the workload on the heater element as it’s not having to fight heat transferring into atmosphere as much.

I haven't looked for that specifically, but there aren't a lot of vids of the SV05, likely because it's new, and it also seems to be mostly very reliable so hasn't generated a lot of problems/how-to's, maybe.

I was looking at the parts pages on the Sovol site and have this extruder listed for the SV04: " SV04 IDEX 3D Printer Metal Direct Drive Extruder" and it looks the same as the SV05 extruder:

I was looking at silicone covers on Amazon, but wasn't sure which ones...presumably the Ender 5 compatible ones should work on the SV05, or ?

Having some difficulty determining what hardened nozzle would be compatily. Sovol's printer is great, but their documentation of parts/configs for the SV05 are harder to find.

The OEM nozzle sold on the Sovol site has "size" in its spec = 13mm*7mm, but I don't see that level of info elsewhere. How does one determine which nozzles are compatible w/your printer?

That cant be right - no heat block is that small.

just grab some calipers and measure yours, my guess is that it's either identical to a Mk8 (20x20mm or a v6 (23x16mm).

That's a helpful video, but its pace is so rushed for an instruction video...I had to keep stopping it to confirm I got what they were doing at the different steps. Hopefully (for me) when I need to complete that process I'll find a version on YouTube going at a pace that doesn't make me feel like it's a race. :slight_smile:
