Let's talk 3D printers!

It’s pretty awesome, and definitely easier to learn than compiling Marlin. But still not really beginner friendly.

I think I’m confused. Is Klipper a firmware or companion server/ui like octoprint?

It’s firmware that runs on both the printer mainboard and a Pi at the same time. The pi does all the heavy lifting and the mainboard is run as a slave MCU.

Which is cruel, and is why I won't run it.

Of course I'm joking - real reason is you haven't offered to come stay at my place for a month to get me up and running. The alternative (9 months of my life dazed and confused) seems just a teeny bit to much to ask the wife to deal with.

@potts.mike - I'm hoping to have time to get through the necessary work-arounds for trying out Octoprint on an Android just to see how that feels.

Hehe, my wife gets grumpy when I go away for 2 weeks for work, imagine a month - I’d be divorced on return! :scream:

Tbh, as much as I love Klipper, it’s not for everyone. I’m a compulsive tinkerer, so for me it’s perfect.

Btw, there are new boards with built in Klipper MCU’s.

"That's a RatRig V-Core-3, 400x400x400mm build volume (approx 16"x16"x16"). It's one of those DIY build-from-scratch 3d printers"

Just found this video yesterday, quality content, an overview of all the filament types was super useful. Didn’t even know there was such a thing as wood infused, stone infused, and metal infused filament.

I use a kasa power bar for my setups and use a kasa specific plugin that detects when the printer has cooled down and there's been no activity for 10 minutes.
Then it shuts down the printer, sends a delayed power off of the plug for Octoprint, then performs a clean shutdown of Octoprint (it's running on linux so it needs a proper shutdown)

Thanks for reminding about this, I either forgot or hadn't heard that.

No worries. The fan on the hot end normally runs till the extruder temp is below 50c.

I couldn't decide:

I love how monthly delivery is listed as most common...

Sovol wins on cost-effectiveness, my only beef is that the location of the holes to feed filament to the printer might be better moved to the rear of the lid so it can be backed up to the printer w/the display/controls still visible and feed out of either reel more or less straight up to my printer. At some point I may close the two front holes and create one or two holes in the back of the top so I can do that.

Just got my shipping notification for my Bambu! Time to buy all the filament and pick out what to print first.

Woot! Happy shipping notification!

I'm hoping there will be a little left over for the rest of us. Hardest part for me to decide (still) is which colors/finishes.

After your xyx cube and benchy-boat I'm assuming you'll be printing a ton of Pokemon Poké Balls like the rest of us.

Yes, that was probably me. I use a power monitoring plug. It will shut off automatically if it has been using more than 50W for more than 10 minutes. When the power drops below 50W, it sends me a notification that the print is done and turns off 10 minutes later.

When I first got the printer, I used a motion sensor to send me the notification when motion stopped, but there was no way for me to turn off the printer so it would run all night until I turned it off in the morning. I think it only uses 7W when idle, so no big deal, really. Kinda like a noisy night light.

OMG...maybe save the forests? Looks pretty amazing.

I installed the same swivel guides I used on the cereal dry boxes in the front of the lid. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks like it'll work ok.

I've backed it so I'll let you know. We do puzzles/board games constantly so it'd be a high use item around here.

Funny enough, I just made my wife a 2'x3' tray out of oak (plywood and solid edge banding) with some leather straps for her to do her puzzles on.
