More correctly, bowden style extruders (found in the majority of low end printers) will struggle to exert enough filament pressure over the length of the tube. Hence the need for the shortest path between extruder and hotend (ie direct drive).

PETG requires a slightly higher 1st layer offset than PLA.

In general you want to slightly smoosh PLA down to get good 1st layer adhesion, many ways to do this including increasing flow slightly (I use 110% 1st layer flow).

Because PETG is much 'stickier', this is not required - in fact it achieves the opposite effect where the molten filament will start to be dragged along the bed by the nozzle as a result.

If using a sheet of paper for setting z offset, simply change from dragging to smooth pull :wink:

Is the "z offset stored in the printer config" in some other config section for PrusaSlicer?

Tried that, both gently and a bit more abusively, to little gain. Also tried heating up to 68 degress and didn't help.

I think I'm hosed, but only affects one portion of the bed so I can keep using the PEI plate as long as I move my prints around. :slight_smile:

I've actually ordered another PEI sheet w/a pebbled surface, wanted to try that out after your positive comments on that type of PEI.

Can't have too much PEI, right? :wink:

This is a PC (or polycarbonate) coated plate. It's less resistant to high temperatures so probably not the best for high temp filaments.

Yep, just add 0.025 to that 1st layer number and see if that does the trick.

Would you include both the change in the 1st layer along with the increase of the Z Offset talked about previously - both of these below - for PETG on my SV05?

Leave the z offset at the default - you only need to increase the first layer height for PETG. Just save it as a PETG Print profile. I normally make a few print profiles for each Filament type so I can get finer control.

Report: I converted all my gasketed cereal boxes to my remixed swivel filament guide w/ o-rings and added PC4-M10 PTFE Tube Connectors & a lid-mounted hygrometers.

After stabilizing overnight, the containers with previously used pla spools dropped to 10-14% while ambient indoor humidity is 42%. That's a pretty good differential.

That’s impressive, my Sunlu stays around 18-20% after 24 hours with no drying.

Yeah, I should have mentioned that hadn't tried drying it yet. This with both Overture and the cheap spool. The cheap spool did the best -10%- but it had been opened from its vacuum pack the day before. The Overture had been opened a few days, but kept in the cereal dry box with the previous version of the swivel guide.

There was also a noticeable drop in the humidity when the spool was put in use and started rolling in the cradle. I'm guessing that the desiccant jars stored inside the spool get activated a little more by the tumbling action.

I haven't tracked this - I'll have to keep an eye on how things are goind w/my Sunlu dryer.

My first ever TPU print is a stringy mess. I’ve resorted to sequential printing until I can tune my settings.

These are Plugs for the holes I’ve drilled into my dryer during my experiments.


So I've mostly solved my PETG woes...the settings that are appearing to work are:

Increased first layer height a little to .24:

Increased Z offset from 0 to .15:

W/those settings adhesion was still a too little sticky, so I added in the "Windex" trick - spray some Windex on the bed (I try to get a misting cover, not soaked), don't wipe it down, then do the print.

Now I'm able to flex the build plate and the prints release. Not as easily as PLA, but worlds better than my first PETG prints. Still some tuning to come, but so much better than before...as my PEI plate can attest. Ouch...destroyed that sucka.

Oh man, I am very afraid of trying TPU...I will leave that one alone for a little while.

Does TPU also havd adhesion issues? ( :scream:)

Yes, I went to 0.3mm 1st layer height and 30c Bed temp to solve them.
