Last cloud backup was unsuccessful. Failed steps: Z-Wave

I have the same issue (backup randomly failing on Z-Wave). I have no problem with Z-wave besides that (only one device on Z-Wave, but used multiple times a day and rock solid)

I'll be following that thread; if I can be useful in troubleshooting, let me know.

My Details:

  • C-8
  • FW 2.3.9.193
  • Endpoint for Z-Wave says "already running v7.18.3"

This seems to be an ongoing issue with me as well (c8). Is it possible to fix remotely? My hub is 400 miles away. Should I just turn off cloud backup?

Fix will arrive in a coming platform update, date TBD. If you have remote access to your hub (Remote Admin or VPN, etc.) then you will be able to apply the platform update remotely.

If you're losing Z-Wave on your backups, a simple short-term fix is to turn off scheduled backup, and do a manual backup when you make changes on your hub.

No, cannot be fixed remote unless you have the hub plugged into a smart plug so you can power cycle it. Yes it may be a good idea to turn off the automatic backups until the issue is fully resolved. As @danabw said you could manually do a cloud backup when you are on site after changes are made.

@FrankT @kamransiddiqi1998 please see this thread for an update on this issue:

Here's hoping they tested (well) the restore of a cloud backup since it sounds like the changes were extensive. I'd hate to find out a yr in the future it was broke!

The content of the backup did not change, just the process flow of saving the backup was refactored to avoid locking up the radio if one step of the process fails.

I posted to that thread but the issue is still there with the latest 2.4.0.145 for me on my C-8.

Yep. Same here. The issue was pretty much gone for a month or two, but reappeared after updating to 2.4.0.145.

Same for me, although I had my first zwave failure/cloud backup failure in many months on .144

I'm having the same issue with c7 hub on the latest update 2.4.0.151. Randomly zwave devices doesn't respond and now can't do exclusion properly of some devices. Random ghost device appear in zwave setting that can't be remove. Can't do inclusion devices as if it get stuck during the inclusion process and creating ghost devices and not installing the correct device. Can't remove ghost devices either.

Make sure you have delete any and all smart start devices. They will keep trying to add themselves back if you remove them. Doing so does NOT remove the device or delete the device. It just will stop the smart start from try to include it again.

Long range?

i can confirm that the issue is still present as of today on a c8. It was resolved for a few months and it is happening again now.

Last cloud backup was unsuccessful. Failed steps: Z-Wave.

Platform Version
2.4.0.151

I have seen this happening a handful of times over the past several months on my C-8. @bobbyD - I am on the latest update an still having this issue. I had seen a post to shut down, wait 5 minutes and start back up, which is what I have been doing, but finally had a chance to search more and found several topics about this.

You only need to wait about 30 seconds when you do this in the future...

Thanks @danabw. That's good to know.

I'm having the same issue after updating to 2.4.1.155 (on a C8). The Z-Wave cloud backup failed so I gave it a shutdown and unplugged but Z-Wave devices are still not responding. I tried this 3 times. Any other suggestions?

UPDATE: Got a ghost device and trying to remove it but no luck so far.

A backup failure can be recovered by doing a shut down and unplugging.
One ghost device should not take out the entire mesh.

Sounds like you might have something else going on. I would start a new topic. Please read the READ FIRST post, and included the requested info in your new topic.
