I was able to easily add a keen smart vent. I just cannot figure out how to program an action, e.g. open/close, or program in a schedule for it to open or close.
Can you confirm that you can adjust the vent from the hub’s device screen?
Once this is confirmed, you can install the « Basic Rules » built-in app and setup a rule that will open and close at a certain time, or when something specific happens.
If you need to setup something more complexe, then « Rule Machine » will allow you to do that.
Upgrade/use to/an ecobee thermostat and use ecobee suite.
It has a really beefy and customizable vents control app.
I was never able to figure out how to operate a Keen Smart vent from the hubitat app, and I returned the hubitat device.
All I’m seeking is a reliable interface to simply open and close a vent. When I open it, I’d like to be able to adjust the percent it’s open.
Scheduling would be nice, but not required.
As I previously stated, I was able to install a vent, but could not control it.
Please advise…out of the box, can I install and control a vent. I don’t know anything about coding and have zero desire to learn!
If the keen vent can be controlled, is there an advantage to using a particular model of hubitat vs other models?
Thank you!
If you are able to open and close it from the device screen, then you can create a Hubitat dashboard to control it from anywhere with the hubitat app, or a link to the dashboard.
For what you are trying to do, any model will work - I would suggest you get the cheapest one you can find. Used C-5 or new C-7 should work.
There is an built-in app that can be installed called Basic Rules. You can use it to schedule opening and closing if you wish.
Bought a new C-7. I was able to add the vents to the system, but I can view/control them only from the web interface and not the Hubitat app (they do not even appear on the app). I tried closing and reopening the app, but still nothing. Ideas?
Thank you!
So to be clear, you can control them via the device screen in the web interface.
Have you tried creating a dashboard? This should enable you to control them from within the app.
Well, let’s say they appear in the web interface. “Control” is intermittent at best. I can, on occasion, get the vents to close and to open. But not always.
I will attempt to create dashboard. I don’t know how, but I’ll look. I’m not a computer guy. I need simple.
Thanks
John
I would recommend that you start with the Easy Dashboard.
Here is the documentation from the Hubitat team:
The documentation link on top of the community site provides some very helpful information on how to do some of the key and basic actions on the hub. And you can ask the community if you get stuck. There will typically be someone who can help.
Finally got all the keen smart vents installed. The schedule function never worked, but I was able to pair everything with Alexa, and now it works brilliantly! I’m thrilled!
Thanks for your help!
I have 12 Keen vents and have been using Keenect Lite (Release) to control them in Hubitat for a couple years. Works great.
