Just Got Email From Sinope: Zigbee Propane Tank Monitor Back In Stock

I've got a TankUtility (Generac) WiFi monitor that's been working well, so far. Not sure if spending the money is worth it, for me.

@mike.maxwell , the person on Sinope Chat said firmware updates would not be available on Hubitat? Do you know anything about this? Couldn't it be made available like firmware updates for other devices?

Ordered it anyway.

Sinope firmware has been solid out of the box...

For 159.00 I'll just buy 10 full tanks, and barbecue nonstop till I'm dead.

Hey, that's not very empathetic.

I have a 1000 gallon tank.

They're predicting a Friday delivery via UPS, from Quebec. That's pretty good, if it works.

I just stuck (magnetic) a Hue motion sensor from the living room onto the tank fill cover to see if it would reach the hub without a repeater. It does, barely. RSSI is about -88, -89. Perhaps my radial arrangement (no repeaters) will remain intact, lol.

The tank is a 1,000 gal above ground horizontal tank, not close to the house, with garage in between.

@mike.maxwell , can you suggest a dashboard template for this device?
I looked and didn't see one that matched.
Do I have to use an Attribute tile, or tiles, if I want battery % as well?
When I look for an attribute in a virtual tank device tile I made, I see no attributes for % fill or battery %. Will these appear when I actually get the device?
Thanks.

this sensor uses a custom attribute "tankLevel" as we don't have a current capability for it.
It will report battery level.

So, that means I'll be able to create two attribute tiles, one for tank level and one for battery level?

yes

Well, If I relied on a propane tank, I'd likely have 1 of these, but for my barbecue, meh. I got one of those old school gauge style with mechanical needle..it works

It can be a hassle traipsing though feet-high snow to check on the propane tank gauge.

Amen.

Package is now in the area-should get it today.
Two days from Montreal via UPS.
Although, it's only a 230 mile drive to my place, still not too shabby with Customs and all.

Totally stellar compared with non-Prime Amazon free shipping where they seem to hold onto it for days before they finally ship it because you're not a Prime member.

Well, that was easy.

The only complaint I could have is that the sensor lead is a little short.
Not that that's necessarily a bad thing.
I have it located on the side of the cover, and there's just enough wire so that the cover can be opened without the device hitting the tank.
There's a natural 'drip loop' with the short length and location.

Strong signal strength, considering the location.

Seems accurate enough. edit: 2% lower than Tank Utility, but somehow the tank info got changed. Sinope doesn't ask for tank size, only horizontal, vertical and fuel type.

I like the pivoting magnets; can be adjust from flat to different curves.
And, the magnets are very strong.

They supply 3 Energizer lithium batteries, which is nice.

So far, So good!

And, best of all....(just kidding):

@mike.maxwell , on the driver, the temperature reporting setting seems to work: I set the interval to 5 minutes and it works.

What I'm wondering, when does the device report battery and tank level %? I know I can induce them by Refresh, but I'm wondering what the parameters are? I haven't gotten any log notices yet.

The manual says something about reporting every 10 minutes, but that's not happening, except, I guess, temperature, if the interval is set to 10 minutes.

I'm assuming it's something like a % change, or every 24 hours or something like that, but it'd be nice to know.

Thanks.
