IKEA not selling smart blinds

Apologies if this topic is a repeat. Searching did not reveal any matches.

I have 12 IKEA FYRTUR / TREDANSEN blinds/shades. Some of the FYRTUR are getting long in the tooth. Fortunately they have a 5 year warranty.
Four have failed. Two were an even exchange when the FYRTUR was still available. The other two were exchanged with TREDANSEN, a ridiculous cellular blind with only a center pull. Very easy for it to end up tilted. Those two are up halfway and don’t move.

Another FYRTUR failed yesterday. IKEA sells no smart blinds, mostly because they are supporting matter soon.
So I can’t find a shade at IKEA, and I’m not moneybags so cost is an issue.

Now to the meat of the question:

AliExpress sells a Tuya Zigbee motor kit that looks promising.

Research states the IKEA tube has an ID of 29mm. The only motor kits I found that are close are 28mm. That might not be an issue.
I’m assuming since these are Tuya, they might be supported by HE.
Anyone adapted their FYRTUR IKEA blinds using this or a different drive system?

I purchased this motor to use with my IKEA RollerShade. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the roller shade model name…

Zemismart Zigbee Roller Shade Blinds Motor for 17mm 25mm 28mm Tube Rechargeable Curtain Engine Work with Tuya ... https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004798347508.html?channel=twinner

The hardware that they provide doesn’t fit in the shade, but my son was able to 3-d print new hardware and it works perfectly.

Contact Smartwings support. They sell replacement motors in different protocols for their blinds. Who knows, might be a fit. They are incredibly helpful and would likely help if it is possible.

So reading this thread peaked my interest, so I went to Smartwings. I don't have what I'd call large windows, 32x50, but $311.00 for 1 freaking shade !

Price Lutron Serena shades. I have 22 of the Smartwings roller shades, most 30" x 70". Bought three and four years ago. almost $50 less each.

I’ll be the Guinea pig. The Tuya motor should be here in a week or two. What is confusing is the motor is designed for tubes with an ID of either 25mm or 28mm. That is pretty much the same with all the motors on AliExpress. I didn’t see different size adapters so maybe the 28mm can be altered to make a 25mm.

Now for the antici pation

Maybe I'm just a cheap skate, but even 200+ for a single shade is wild.

That’s where a 3D printer comes in handy…

Same...I feel like I'm being had at and above that price. Everybody has their own "That's reasonable/That's crazy" scale, of course.

Or as I am often told: “Get off your butt and close them!”

Lowest cost of all :innocent:

We live in a fish bowl, single story ranch, 22 roller shades. Our west facing primary living area has seven somewhat tall windows and a sliding door. Lots of light to manage there. They are automated to follow the sun down late in the day based on luminance and % cloud cover. It's been about three years since I installed them. I do not miss the daily continuous shade dance.

While we're mentioning IKEA, I'll report that I was successful with a warranty claim last year, getting a store card for the original amount paid for both shades that were on that window.

Early this year, I had another shade failed that was part of a three shade set on a window. Of course I spent hours in chat convincing them that, yes, these were still under warranty, and I offered to send them the user manual that stated that. Eventually they said the closest store would contact me to arrange pickup. The never did. I went back into chat and they had closed the case. Several hours more in chat. Three times the chat ending with encouraging words like

(25.3.2026 09:48): Saddam: The request for the return labels on both the cases is currently pending with the returns department for processing. Due to large number of return caseworks, there has been a delay in sending the return labels to you and I apologize for the delay.
(25.3.2026 09:49): Saddam: Please do not worry, I will escalate the issue to the team so that the return labels can be sent within 24-48 hours.
(25.3.2026 09:49): Me: That's what I was told 5 days ago.
(25.3.2026 09:52): Saddam: I can understand that you were provided the same information and I agree that there has been a delay in processing your request. Please accept my apologies on this matter. I have escalated the issue to the returns team and you will definitely receive the return labels within 24-48 hours.

I've given up. They outlasted me.

The Tuya Zigbee motor from AliExpress arrived. It comes with both a 25mm and 28mm end. Of course the larger adapter falls right into the tube. And of course I can’t find the end of the IKEA motor that fits in the tube to see if I can modify it. Found everything else though.

Before I go any further, I am going to try and pair this with HE.

In the photo, notice how small the battery is. Possibly a way to add a couple 18650s .

I have about 40+ projects to occupy my retirement With my OCD i don’t stay with one project long. There might be an update but not sure when.

Anyone have a broken IKEA drive motor that can sell me the black thing at the end of the motor?

Then you don't have very good OCD, IMHO. If you have really good OCD you stay with all your projects really long.

The motor paired with the Tuya app fine. Not so much with the C7. Did several power cycles, reset a bunch of times (the motor beeps when it resets and drives my dog nuts because she thinks her bark collar is warning her).

So the motor is not recognized at all. The C7 is downstairs so I will try to pair right next to it.

Another issue is the tube diameter is 29.6 cm and the largest adapter in the box is 28mm. I can buy this for a 38mm tube so reducing the size of the adapter and a little gorilla glue will keep it together.

If the motor doesn’t pair with HE, then back it goes to AliExpress.

The motor is made by my but neither the Tuya or the Myq websites have information about this.

The first 3 in the part number is the torque and the 33 means the shade rotates at 33 rpm.

I really would like for this to work, otherwise we go back to manual shades

I ordered this and it should be here today. Almost the price of a new FYRTUR blind but they aren’t available so that is moot.

I don’t want to spend big bucks because I don’t have big bucks.

If these start failing, I need to have a replacement.

Thanks to all those pioneers seeking out a replacement motor solution! Finding one that works will be a game-changer.

For what it's worth, I asked Amazon AI about it and it said ..

No, the AM22 Zigbee Smart Roller Shade Motor is designed specifically for 32mm O.D. (outer diameter) tubes and will not fit IKEA Fyrtur shades, which use a different roller mechanism and motor system integrated into their proprietary design.

IKEA Fyrtur blinds come pre-equipped with their own wireless motor built into the roller tube—they're not compatible with aftermarket motors like the AM22.

but when I challenged it to cite a source saying how it was sure it would NOT work, it said ..

You're right to call me out. I don't have a credible source cited for my claim that Fyrtur uses a "different motor system." Looking at the product information I have, the AM22 is designed for 32mm O.D. tubes and requires a Zigbee hub to operate.

While the Fyrtur manuals I found confirm it's a battery-operated wireless blind, they don't specify the tube diameter, so I cannot definitively say whether they're incompatible based on specifications alone. I shouldn't have stated that as a fact without a reliable source.
