I am Done

I just cant take any more. I was with Smart Things. It was great. Then they moved to the cloud and off the hub. That made me move to Hubitat. All I have used it for was motion sensors and sirens. Worked great for a while. NOW. Done. I hate it. It may not be the hub, but the hub has left me behind. My sensors don't work. I do not want to spend the time necessary to keep it all together. It's a mind ■■■■. I go. I will take a hammer to my hub tomorrow. Not going back. Robbery might be preferable.

Ok, see ya...

Say hi if you come back.

Go back to ST. Most processing happens on the hub now with Edge. High WAF for the mobile app (although it is cloud based.) For just motion sensors and sirens all the processing will be local.

I realize things can be frustrating when they don't work. It appears you haven't asked for help in diagnosing your issues, and haven't logged in at least for the past year. I am not sure why you wouldn't ask for help before you became so enraged.

People here would definitely help if you would have asked.

Thanks for sharing your feelings about your home automation experience. It is very unfortunate that you've become so disappointed with your smart home.

Based on your previous community activity, your Hubitat Elevation journey started in the summer of 2021. You were then very appreciative of this community when you started:

A year later, when you ran into a router-related issue, the community once again helped you work through the connectivity problem:

I understand that you are using Hubitat as part of what you consider your “security system,” and I’m sure you’re aware that expecting any always-on device to run 24/7 for more than three years without interruption or maintenance is not realistic.

This applies not just to smart home hubs, but also to routers, NAS devices, cameras, and other consumer electronics that rely on storage, radios, and constant network activity.

That said, it’s also completely valid to decide that you no longer want to invest the time required to maintain a more advanced or customizable system.

Hubitat Elevation —and platforms like it— do require some level of ongoing care, whether that’s occasional reboots, firmware updates, device maintenance, or hardware replacement over time.

For some users, that tradeoff is worth it; for others, it eventually isn’t.

If your needs or expectations have changed, that doesn’t invalidate the positive experience you had for several years, nor does it reflect a failure on your part. It simply means your priorities are different now.

If you’d like help stabilizing your current setup, understanding migration options, or deciding what makes the most sense going forward, the community and support team are still here to help.

And if you decide to move on, we genuinely appreciate the time you spent with Hubitat and the contributions you made along the way.

Either way, thank you for being part of the community.

I have felt this way on many occasions. Hang in there and it will pass. Buying a new smart home device will help.

I have often found that with the flexibility of so many choices and options often bring complexity. Maybe consider "starting over" with just a few critical functions and expanding outwards over time. Although I have had a few issues myself, (working through one now), the capabilities offered by Hubitat are by far unmatched by any other platform. Usually, my experience has been the issues begin when the complexity of actions on the platform begin to increase.

Wishing you the best success in your new home automation endeavors. Of course we hate to see you leave but of course will welcome you back anytime should you wish to come back.

It's always disappointing to hear about anyone having so many problems. FWIW, I feel for many people who don't have a great deal of time and/or money to invest, this can be a challenging endeavour. I've personally taken a careful approach because I have an elderly parent in the home. This really means that 99% of the time, things just need to work. Carefully planning what types of automation is of value has been helpful. I don't use Hubitat as an alarm system because although generally capable, that wasn't its primary purpose. I have a separate, monitored, system for this.

Virtually all lighting in the home is controlled through automation, along with things such as leak detection and water damage mitigation. Lighting is tied in with both smoke and CO alarm activation. Numerous other systems have also been implemented. This said, I added these gradually, and with careful consideration to the devices I'd ultimately select. Lutron for 99.9% of my lighting and ceiling fan control. Establishing strong mesh networks for Z-Wave and Zigbee to eliminate, or at least almost eliminate problematic function (especially when using battery operated devices).

Many of these technologies are still (relatively speaking) in their infancy, at least in the home environment. As much as we'd like to open the box, connect the device, and life is great for ever more, this really isn't reality. Thoughtfulness and planning go a long way. Hopefully, you'll step away for a short time to clear your thoughts and try again. It can be very rewarding, despite the setbacks.

Sorry to see you go this way. I expect there are logical answers to each of your issues but collectively they might have been too much.

I was with another platform prior to coming to Hubitat. I found the Hubitat learning curve a tad steep early on as I was well indoctrinated in the other platform. As I have learned, the ceiling is high with Hubitat, only limited by your imagination. So many add in apps and drivers for almost any scenario you can think of. The best part is this support forum with so many advanced users freely giving of their time and energy to help folks like yourself.

If you take a breath, enjoy some New Years cheer, maybe you'll find the energy to give it another go. If so post details of your issues and you'll be amazed how helpful people are to assist you in navigating your issues.
