Hub not responding

Reboot didnt work, tried a couple more shutdown commands and it finally shutdown.

Power cycled after shutdown and I am back up and running again, first thing to do BACKUP to my PC!!

Hope this doesnt happen again, I will have to keep a close eye on logs for a bit.

Thanks everyone for the help.

Woke up this morning to this again, no response from hub!

pulled the plug this time after waiting 20 minutes for the diagnostic menu to load.

Started up fine, these are the last logs before it froze:

C-3 hub here FW 2.2.4.148

Came home to a frozen hub, blue light

Accessed :8081 and tried to shut down, after about 5 mins of nothing, I selected shutdown again then got Network Error. From the diagnostic page I selected reboot, Network Error

About 2 mins later got a red light now with a spinning circle and Network Error on the hub

Pulled the plug, waited 1 min plugged it back in and it booted up

Logs stopped at 1:10PM today and nothing weird up to that point other than the usual Echo Speaks error...

You know what's weird, last week I literally started exporting Rules and taking screen shots of other stuff cuz I can't shake this feeling...

Let's hope it up-hill from here

Hub locked up again today, this is getting very frustrating. Power cycle brings it back each time and nothing in the logs that look alarming.

I see it's running 2.2.4.148. Could you please try updating to 2.2.4.156? There were some memory setting changes for the C4s between the two versions. If that doesn't do the trick, there's a community hub rebooter app. You can set it to reboot the hub nightly at, say, 3am, and daily reboots will buy us time to get to the root cause.

will do, thanks

I have been scheduling weekly reboots. However I had another locked up hub on Christmas morning just prior to the scheduled reboot. Only suspicious thing I saw in the logs was this:

Is this something to be worried about? The reboot was scheduled for 4am

Try increasing dashboard refresh intervals from 2 seconds (default) to 5 seconds.
I'll be taking another look at dashboard code for 2.2.5. It used to be a real resource hog, and things got better, but it looks like there's still room for improvement.

Do dashboards that are not currently displayed on a device consume hub resources?

No, only whatever shows up in browser, mobile app, etc.

Any update on getting to the root cause and fix to stop Hub from not responding? This weekend I was away and had HSM activated. When we came home last night first clue something was wrong was our entry door did not automatically unlock. Then when we entered the motion detectors did not turn on lights like they are supposed followed by no notification from Alexa that alarm had been activated and needed to be deactivated before siren goes off. When I attempted to check the hub I hit the same situation as others where I got no response. I unplugged hub and when it restarted lights then came on and HSM sent appropriate a alert to Alexa and my phone that alarm had been activated and siren would activate in 20 seconds unless disarmed. I find I have to restart my hub about every 10 days as this freeze issue keeps occurring. I will try implementing the community hub rebooter app but that really does not solve the problem if hub freezes in the middle of the day and HSM is Activate I would have no way of knowing if someone broke into my house or not. I hope the good folks at Hubitat will be able to fix this freeze issue within the hub itself.

Did you ever fix this? I'm running into the same issue

That is not very helpful to diagnosing the root cause. Could you please describe what is happening, and when? Any particular pattern to this, or when a certain device or app is used? Have you tried disabling anything to see if helps?

What firmware version is your hub? Did you try an older firmware? Did you try to do a backup to your computer, do a SOFT reset, and restore that backup file?

And last, did you file a support case by emailing support@hubitat.com?

No the root cause has not been determined or fixed but since using the hub rebooter app to restart my device every 3 days I have not had any problems with hub freezing. I'm on a Hubitat Elevation® Platform Version 2.2.5.131 using Hardware Version Rev C-4

I was responding to @gomce62.web asking if they had any updates. I have several tickets that I have opened but the delay in responding isn't ideal.

I just turned that on as well. Again I'm in the same boat but I'm glad it is working for you. My hub froze the last 3 days and I noticed none of my lights were working specifically at sunrise and sundown. When I logged into the webui it wouldn't load. Power cycle fixes it but no logs or system warnings that indicate there was an issue.

Your symptoms sound exactly the same as mine and I also saw nothing in the logs after power cycle that reported any issues. Good news is since installing hub rebooter app I have not experienced any issues.

Glad you got it working. I have to put a smart plug and schedule power cycles multiple times a day :frowning:
