How would you detect when a small LED indicator is illuminated?

I have some gadgets that will illuminate an LED at times, and I would like Hubitat to know when that happens.

I could figure out some kind of relay circuit and tap into the LED voltage, but that's a project I don't really want to do... Plus, some gadgets are not easy to take apart.

So, I was thinking there must be some kind of existing gadget with a light sensor and a relay that can just be attached to the outside of the gadget. Then, I can use a contact closure sensor to monitor the relay.

Sure enough I found:

But before I try this guy, has anyone already tackled this problem and come up with a solution that they like? This board looks promising but there's no way to know if it can be dialed in to sense an LED without trying it.

I didn't have good luck with this (and that might be why it's always on sale...), but it's an out-of-box compatible Z-Wave solution if it does for you:

Good lead, thanks.

About 4 years ago I used a NodeMCU board and a BH1750 sensor. I remembered that it worked pretty well if I taped over the sensor to cover all the other light. Unfortunately I don't remember exactly how I brought it into Hubitat. :slightly_frowning_face:

This was the cool project back then that I never finished.

Dehumidifiers are so annoying like this. Even if you buy a "smart" one that you can turn on and off or set from your phone, they never push tank full alerts, preferring instead to beep quietly in the room they are in and flash a light.

I have three of the homeseer . They work well. 2 on underground dog fence transmitters to tell me if wire is broken. And one one steam humidifier to notify of service/cleaning needed.

I have 3 of those as well. They are great and inexpensive. One I use as a temp sensor and beeper for notifying when the garage door is about to open or close. I use the other 2 for monitoring refrigerator temperatures. I have them all powered via their usb port, which is an additional bonus. I haven’t used the light sensor.

Thanks guys, I will give the Homeseer a try.
