I see lots of back and forth. I am on a C7 about to migrate to a C8-pro. If I was looking to purchase one of these now, which do you recommend?
I'd say dongle P as it is better known, more people have installed them than the E version. But that's just me.
I’d be tempted to get the Aeotec repeater zi off Amazon. If it’s as good as the outlet that’s no longer available, then it’s worth the money. My 3 Samsung zigbee 3.0 outlets still do the lion’s share of the repeating even with 4 Sonoff dongles on that hub. One of them currently shows 20 devices connected.
Simple plug and play is nice. I will try it out.
I tried to flash the Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus (not E version) through the Python script for Windows using the video in this post. But, I got an error at the very end that says: "ERROR: int() can't convert non-string with explicit base". I made sure that I downloaded the router instead of the coordinator and used that file name in the final python command. It still says the "Write Done" and the "Verified Done", but it just has this additional error. How can I check if it worked anyway?
It should pair to Hubitat if it was successfully flashed as a zigbee router/repeater.
But you need to start the pairing process on Hubitat right after starting the flash on the usb dongle; unless you like pulling out your hair. It has a surprisingly short pairing window. I used the Zigstar flashing tool and it worked well for me.
Well it seems to be in here. Now as to whether it’s “hosting” any end devices, is there a way to find that out? This is all I see in the Zigbee Details in the settings
Then it got flashed as router/repeater. Leave it alone for a few days/weeks. It will start routing for other devices over time.
If you want to hurry things up, you can shut down and unplug your hub for about 20 minutes. That puts your Zigbee devices into "panic mode" where they rebuild their neighbor tables and may take new routes to the hub sooner.
Ooo interesting. May do that tomorrow. Thanks for the tip!
The "caveat Zigbee-er" is that in the end, the devices will take the route that they prefer, based primarily on LQI numbers (examples below) IIRC, so for the most part "they know best" where/who to route through.
How do you get to this view of Neighbor Tables?
In a browser URL:
http://yourhubIP/hub/zigbee/getChildAndRouteInfo
Refreshing the page will update the data - I don't know how much or how often.
After a lenthy hang on my hub during a backup. The dongle would not respond and even power toggling it wouldnt fix it. I had to remove it reboot hub and reflash it to get it paired and working again. Not optimal at all!
I'm sure I'm on the Initial firmware is it worth me upgrading my P dongles?
Would I have to remove them from Hubitat before updating and adding them back?
Getting bored with nothing to add this has been on the to-do list for a while as the 5db to 9db jump might help with a few things
LOL...I've been there, felt that.
I think flashing it also resets it, as when you flash it boots up initially in pairing mode. It should pair back to HE and slot back into your hub. See the info in the second post about pairing before you start.
I have a feeling this isn't what you want to hear, but probably in the "if it ain't broke" category.
The change log is linked to in the second post - here it is. Unless you see something you want/need...
Bummer...I don't think I've run into that on any of mine. Just received a new one today and flashed it and joined it w/out issue (thanks to the process you shared - 15s hold on reset button after connecting to power).
Did you try flashing it w/out removing it from the hub first, to see if it would slot back into your hub?
Yep no go
