Honeywell Ademco 5816 Door Sensor

The title basically says it all. I wanting to know if anyone has had any experience with these sensors and Hubitat?
The house we purchased has a couple of these along with a matching motion sensor.
Any help much appreciated.

Scott

The Ademco 5800 series devices are NOT compatible with Hubitat. They are proprietary devices that work only with Vista/Lynx Alarm panels that have a wireless transceiver installed.

Thanks @cybrmage for the quick reply. I guess I know what I will be doing.

Buying Zigbee sensors???

Did the previous homeowners take the alarm panel with them?

No the panel is still here. It was attached to the ADT alarm company. I was never a subscriber to the company and had to open it up and disconnect some wires to get the audible to stop. I wanted to automate the house with the sensors in place, but they seem to be of no value to other options. Sonoff Bridge RF doesn't recognize them.
I have numerous lights that I wanted to the automation as well. Sprinklers, etc.

Did the previous homeowners give you the alarm panel codes?

If not, there are ways to possible reset the installer code and gain access...

Once you gain access, you can have a fully functioning alarm system (less the ADT monitoring). You can then add an interface device to gain control and self monitoring and automation with your Hubitat.

No, I don't have the codes. This is something I was wondering about, reusing the current panel and connecting it to some type of home automation. I did download the manual for the panel, but dumped it because I couldn't see how it would work without ADT.
Adding an interface would be fantastic.

Here is the procedure to reset the installer code for the Vista panels (The ADT panels are a rebadged Vista 20p with slightly different firmware).

How to reset the installer code:

  1. Unplug the transformer from the power source.
  2. Disconnect the battery.
  3. Plug the transformer back in.
  4. Reconnect the battery.
  5. Within 30 seconds of turning the alarm system on, press * and # on the control panel at the same time. ... If successful, the control panel will display "20" or "installer code 20".
  6. Enter *20.
  7. Enter a new 4 digit installer code. ...
  8. Press *99 to exit programming mode.

If this works you will be able to program a new Master code and User codes... And your panel should be functional. You will probably (read as will) need to change the programming for the dialout numbers to disable them, and you will need to disable any long range (cellular backup) radios that may be installed.

First, see if you can get the Installer code change...., Then, if it works, we'll work through the other steps...

Also... The default installer code for a Vista panel is 4112 and the installer code used by most ADT installations is 6321.

Test these first... On the control panel, try to enter the installer menu by entering

4112800

or

6321800

If the control panel displays "20" or "installer code 20", then that code (the first 4 digits) is correct and you don't need to do the power cycle procedure.

The display is void of anything. Would that be due to a dead battery pack?

There are two possibilities:

  1. No power to the panel
  2. Control panel is defective

At the panel, there should be a wire cable running from the panel to a tan (usually) or grey (rarely) power cube. This is the power transformer. Check to make sure that it is plugged in.

You mentioned that you had to disconnect wires to get it to stop making noise... I suspect that those wires were the power wires from the transformer... If so, you will need to reconnect the wires to terminals 1 and 2 on the panel. You should find and unplug the transformer first, as shorting the board can fry it.

To eliminate the siren noise from the panel sirens, disconnect the wire from terminal 3.

The power wires are connected to 15 and 16 on the board and the phone wires are 2 thru 5.
I had disconnected the ribbon cable which connects the two boards.
The power transformer is plugged and the outlet is working.

I have removed the power transformer from the wall and tested it with a switching power supply. Once connected, it showed 2.5 volts with about 4.6 amps. When I check the two prongs with a multimeter, I get 0.00.

There are ways to integrate an alarm panel like that using either Konnected or AD2Pi. But you're looking at about a $200 investment. If you're like me and you had 50 sensors, it makes sense. If you have 2-3, it's cheaper to replace with zwave or zigbee.

I looked at the Konnected, but told me they do not connect or work with wireless devices, which my sensors are. I have a few RPi's around the house and add-on board does look pricey.
So any Zigbee/Zwave device from say, Banggood or AliExpress, will work?
I guess I'm trying to find a central box much like Hubitat.

I tried to upload an image into the post, but was denied.

Pretty much anything will work as long as it has the frequency for your country, so if you're not in China and you're buying on AliExpress, be careful that it's not a Chinese frequency! They vary throughout the world.

I can tell you though the Ad2pi does work with wireless, I have mine up and running, but like I said I had 50 sensors so it made sense (I also have my system monitored and didn't want to lose that).

That is definitely not the wiring foe a Vista based panel...

You should be testing the output of the transformer.... with a voltmeter (or multimeter on the Voltage setting)... It should read 16VAC RMS and should deliver up to 25VA.

At this point... You should probably take a picture of the panel and post it. (The forum software will let you upload a picture after you have posted some messages)...

In the meantime, are there any stickers on the inside of the panel enclosure (usually on the backside of the door, or on the circuit board at the top of the enclosure...) If so, what do they say...

OK, I will need to add a few more posts to get that to kick in.

This what I'm trying to corral in my house.
