Has anyone used these Govee products with Hubitat

Govee Smart Outdoor String Lights 2, 144ft RGBIC Outdoor Lights (any length)

or

Govee Outdoor Projector Light, Christmas Laser and Aurora Projector Light

I know this one doesn't support the Govee LAN protocol, because I looked into it a while ago. I think it would still be supported by @mavrrick58's integration since it supports both cloud and LAN protocols.

Most likely they will work in some fashion. If you have exact model numbers that may make it easier to compare against the documentation at least.

There are three possible paths to control

  1. Govee's Cloud API
  2. Govee's Lan API
  3. Matter support

Generally speaking if the devices supports Wifi it is very unlikely it won't support the Govee Cloud API. I have seen in happen once or twice, but odds are good it will support that.

All of newer devices support the LAN API if they have been released in the last few years.

Most everything released in the last 6 months supports MATTER so that is another option as well.

The most feature rich option for control will be the Govee Cloud API as Govee doesn't have limitations put on it from outside controls.

Thanks...That all sounds like in some way they will all be able to integrate with Hubitat "Somehow."

The string light are model number ‏ : ‎ H7039
The projector lights are Item model number ‏ : ‎ H7070

The projector supports Matter. It's all I'm getting now.

Both of those devices are on the supported devices list for the Cloud API.

Thanks for the trouble. The link to app brought be to the supported device page. This is great news...both are. I may still wait and find matter supported lights...but the Christmas Projector looks like a fun toy. :slightly_smiling_face:

Here are all of the MATTER supported devices Govee makes. It has grown allot over the last few months..

I have the projector and have it running through Hubitat using the LAN API. I also have the permanent lights 2 and the new curtain lights. I do have issues with the Govee products not communicating with Hubitat. It can be a hit or miss for them being controlled through automations.

Are you using LAN API for all of them?

Lan API uses the UDP network protocol which is a fire and forget type of communication. If your wifi isn't pretty solid it can drop packets and then stuff could be missed. You may want to try switching such devices to TCP as it has more complete transmission checks to ensure the command gets to the devices.

My network is solid. I upgraded all of it because of the flaky connections with the Govee lights ... And because I really wanted new equipment. It didn't help though.

How do I change the communication to TCP?

Either use the Cloud API (turn off LAN API) or switch devices that can to Matter use that instead.

There was another user that also just sent the commands twice to ensure the Govee device got it.

fisher.omega THANKS! That really proves it out.

mavrrick58 Thank for everything AND the list

Is there any way to control the H7070 Govee Outdoor Laser Projector Lights directly from Hubitat without having to set up an account with Govee? Or is my best bet to use an Enbrighten outdoor outlet to switch the projector on and off?

So far, that is what I think will work as the projector does seem to keep its state when powered off so that when powered back up, it resumes projecting. The projector may be made in China, but I don't want to set up an account on my phone through which it could possibly be doing things behind the scenes. I don't have Google Home set up and I do not have an Alexa device or an Apple device either. When I went to look on connecting with Matter, I was prompted to activate it. Then to link, it seems like one must set it up with the phone and go through multiple steps to connect it. So far, matter only seems to be a way to lock people into the tech companies' ecosystems. I don't see it of being any benefit for keeping operations local.

I don't think so. Even with Govee devices that support MATTER you need to get them on your wifi. To connect to your wifi you need them in the Govee Home app.

Not sure I follow. From what I can tell Matter keeps it local and allows you to provision the devices across multiple local hubs. Because it is wifi you would need some app to add the device to the wifi, but after that matter provisioning doesn't need the Govee Home app at all. Govee Matter devices come with a sticker that includes the needed QR code to provision. Technically Govee devices seem to allow you to set them directly up on the Hubitat hub once they are on wifi with that QR Code. All of my devices are provisioned that way.

The downside to pairing with Matter directly to the Hubitat is a Hubitat limitation where Hubitat can't generate new QR codes to provision the devices to external platforms.

Not my experience with the projector. I tried multiple times to get it to connect to Hubitat after linking it to WiFi with my phone and the Govee app. I gave up out of frustration and will use it with the Zigbee outdoor outlet which works flawlessly.

Admittedly, I am using a C7 hub, not a C8 hub. My home has a C5 and a C7 hub and I have a spare C7 on hand. I have no burning urge to purchase a C8 hub, especially since I am still using Iris V1 devices. I did end up installing the Govee app and getting it set up. I enabled Matter on the C7 hub and tried, but it just was not working. It could not find the projector, even though I entered the code that the app gave me. I also enabled IPv6 on my router and linked the phone and the projector to the 2.4 GHz and not to the 5 GHz wireless. This also was fruitless.
