HA compulsive shopping, a mental disorder?

Hi,

I been thinking that maybe I have so many stuff that I don't even need, couple of new stuff and used, is that bad? I hope my wife doesn't read this forum.

Any ides of what to do? Installing them of course.

Pfffttt! That's barely a start on a real hoard, heh!

A hex on your words! We are sound-minded enthusiasts. That's my story and I'm sticking with it. :+1:

The Lowes Iris closeout didn't help the pile get any smaller.

Clearly that's not enough.. I only see one Hub in there and no Lutron Smart Bridge PRO or related Lutron devices like the pico remote.

The good news is you are in excellent company here...

Haha, yeah, honestly I had a lutron pro bridge on ebay watch list but I already have my full house switches on z wave, 1200sqft home with more than 100 devices total, plus all those in the boxes, a Xiaomi order coming, i can't have the lutron! I have 2 HE hubs installed, that one is the spare

I've been looking at the Lutron stuff as well after reading all the threads... so tempting but so unnecessary..

Also apparently we both need a 3rd HE hub - one to act as a controller and run all the cloud services....

Man, I'm falling behind. Only have two.

Unnecessary? Blasphemy!

Seriously though, I think there is a dopamine rush when a new device is successfully paired.

Haha so true.. I just paired a Zigbee door sensor then put it in a drawer. Looking for a place to mount it.

This was my pile awhile ago, was going to keep track of my progress, but then I got more stuff so I need to update the picture.

You're right it is addictive and expensive. What I have done to help is to turn to bargain hunting as well. I got:

6 Sylvania contact and temperature sensors (Zigbee) for $5.84 each from amazon
1 Smartthings 1 gen motion sensor $12 from military store
2 Smartthings 1 gen water leak sensors $12 each from military store
2 ADT water leak sensors $10 each from best buy
1 Smartthings 2 gen Hub $25 from home depot
4 Sylvania Outlet plug $16 each from amazon
1 Sylvania Outlet plug $15 from amazon
1 Google Lenovo 10 inch hub $99 from walmart

This way I save money and I keep my addiction in check.

Dang, I paid the same for the 8 inch

Yes they sold fast. People went in buying them all to resell them lol

Yes it has to be some type of compulsive behavior.
HaHa, you amateurs. I have so many devices that they all can't fit in a picture, with a 12mm Fisheye lens.:grinning:
I sometimes lose track of where I placed a device, fun to track down. Only have 125 devices and some 10 more to move from ST

It’s no cure for this affliction but being located in another world region (Australia, in my case) has a very limiting effect on the condition.

I am in the same boat. I have 15 Zooz switches to install but I have been postponing the task as I have to run a nuetral wire to the switch box from the light. Glad the entire house is piped.

I just installed a bunch of the Zen23 & 24's for our upstairs... Went with the toggle to keep consistency with the rest the switches in our house. They work well - the dimmer is a little slow to turn on/off but we are getting used to them.

We definately have some amateurs here... Allow me to school you all...

Wrong! There is no such concept in home automation.
Rule #1... If you have it, you need it..

Also wrong! There's no such concept as a hoard in home automatiom.
Rule #2... Unused devices are considered a spare parts. (at least as far as the wife goes). :sunglasses:

Wrong again! You need three hubs to be considered an enthiousiast.
Rule #3... Real developers have a hub specifically for testing code. In this case, you will need 4!

So much so learn... I'm sure you'll all get there some day.. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
