My SOs favorite automations are the automations that let her disable automations.

I have virtual switches set up to disable most of the lighting automations but Google will inevitably screw up the request for her when she tries to use it to turn the switch on and then she gets double pissed off. I haven't found a workable solution that performs 100% yet.

The best I get are moments of this...on and off my wife seems to understand, but overall happier if it was gone.

As previously noted, this ^^^

You'd think that would be a good one, right? Nope...my wife worries that the smart locks will go crazy and all unlock while we're thousands of miles away on a trip. This is after years and years of living w/smart locks that have only ever helped, never done anything strange. She is a zero-trust system that constantly revokes earned trust.

Every single trip used to start with a "did we turn off......." or "did we lock....." at about the 15 minute mark. Literally, the only way to ease her mind was to turn around and go check (which, as a person who knows... happy wife/happy life.... I did).

Now, she just knows that if any of that is going on, she will get the notification as we are leaving. And, if she is worried, she can just check.

Same. It was one of my motivations for smart home. I have pretty much every thing on the travel checklist covered. Now, I just need something to check for the gas stove and the beginning of trips will be golden!

LOL - Yes, the stove.

Luckily, just the two of us now. 98% of our cooking is on my big green egg (Which is monitored through the fireboard app and the integration in HE). So, I got an automation for that too

There's a topic for that...

And my solution (in that topic).

@danabw LOVE IT! Only one question: which contact sensor did you use?

Thanks.

Old Visonic model at first - I think it's the MCT-340. Then switched to the Aqara contact sensor (MCCGQ11LM) due to better battery life and small enough to fit.
