A long while back when I built my rules in January of 2020, things on HE were a little different! Not complaining. It's great all the improvements. However one of my rules for my front door has since stopped working, and I cannot for the life of me duplicate how I had it set up. Here is the Goal.
Monday - Friday between 7pm and 5pm (spanning midnight), lock the front door after five minutes of its status being reported as "closed" via a contact sensor. Cancel if opened within the five minutes, and start timer again when closed again.
Same setup for Saturday and Sunday between 7pm and 9am (different rule, so I can modify times separately of weekdays and weekends)
Attached is my initial setup. Cant seem to find a way to install the THEN, ELSE, END IF part of the actions. Wondering if it needs to be built differently now.
End goal is to be able to modify the times for both weekends and weekdays with the seasons easily without breaking the rules.
Could try AI [Visual Rules Builder]
I told it to do this : [Visual Rules Builder]
Monday - Friday between 7pm and 5pm (spanning midnight), lock the front door after five minutes of its status being reported as "closed" via a contact sensor. Cancel if opened within the five minutes, and start timer again when closed again.
I have an App that can almost do what you want. Only difference it has no armed time frame option but does utilize Modes(Home, Night, Away, etc..) to arm the auto lock. You can only use one mode per lock though. Has configurable wait to lock times. And will cancel if contact re-opened and restart autolock timer after closed again.
It looks like it should work, but I think it would be simpler to just get rid of the Else and have the cancel delayed action as the first action in your rule.
I am not sure how to interpret that. You can't find that option, or it isn't working/adding when you do find it? Or you can't get the ELSE into the correct place in the flow?
Update. Tried visual rule maker and it would work until i added the time frame conditions. Poking around the other rule maker built ins - basic rule make was able to complete the task and make it simple enough for a lightweight like myself. Honestly have not messed around with any of this since 2020 so was unaware what these other rule builders could do. Much more simple than it used to be. The beta AI feature with visual app is pretty slick too.
Here is what i ended up with. Seems to be working.
