At Hydro Quebec they are now giving FREE HILO thermostats and hub. I was using Flex-D tarif with Stelpro thermostats but don't know if I should switch to these free thermostats. I did not find in the discussions that it is fully supported under Hubitat.
What will you do people from Quebec ? And is it possible to fully control them with Hubitat ?
Thanks.
Just sent this to my son who just survived his first winter electric bill from HQ.
I set him up on my spare hub when he moved there so if an integration or compatibility exists this might help his usage.
Unfortunately the house is baseboards so they eat electricity.
It was so bad he had to buy a big mini-split to heat the lower level and turn off all the baseboards.
Remote control is provided mostly as a convenience, so the customers don't have to do anything to participate in the program. The algorithm is well communicated and the customer can tweak it to some extent. In any case, the thermostats can be removed, not just control overridden, from the utility's hub. Then, it's up to the user to manage them during peak periods.
It benefits the utility that customers reduce their consumption during peak periods. In exchange for that benefit, customers get paid (can amount to hundreds of $ per winter depending on the energy savings achieved during peaks).
I personnaly use the HA integration (cloud) and bring them to HE with HADB along with the meter reading and the various sensors as triggers for RM automation.
But there is an HE integration written by @mboisson.
Super merci BEAUCOUP ! J'ai des thermostats Stelpro dans HE et je fais partie de Flex-D. La je me demande si ca vaut la peine de passer a Hilo. On dirait que les rabais + argent de Hilo ca semble mieux que Flex-D.
I can confirm that Hilo has zero control over my thermostats. My Stelpro thermostats are bound directly to HE through the driver posted above. I use the email notifications that Hilo sends us to trigger my own set of rules for the challenges. I have been working like that for 3 years now.
I use the Home Assistant integration and HADB only to collect the total power usage of the house, which I record in an external database alongside a bunch of other metrics. If the integration breaks, that does not affect any of my automations.
do i need to use Hilo hub? the electrician told me i need to use their hub, but in my head, as long as its connected, it's good.
Can anyone tell me if i can use my HE?
thank you
Actually from what I read, if you buy the Zigbee version you need the use the Sinope Hub for it to work, HE does not have an app for the Hilo program, if they did I would have bought them for sure.
For the Hilo program probably you're right, but after one year you can leave the program and use it directly in HE no ? And when there will be ONLY Hilo program at Hydro Quebec I know somebody (YOU! ) that will develop that app LOL !
