I just received my C8 Pro this week and was immediately horrified to discover that my old Eaton RF9540/9542 pairs would not work. The Eaton Dimmer/Eaton Accessory Dimmer drivers are useless for these.
Standalone 9540's have no problem as Generic Z-Wave Smart Dimmer. After two days Googling and searching this board I remembered that these devices worked just fine for the past two years without my trusty HS Hometroller connected because Z-Wave supports direct in-device association.
The solution is as follows:
Include all of your 9540/9542 devices as Generic Z-Wave Smart Dimmers. Yes, I know, the 9542 does not control a load. Get over it. It controls the master. Don't get hung up on labels. Make sure you name your remotes something obvious like Same Name as Master (R). In a case where I had two remotes they were (R1) and (R2). This is important once you return to the control panel - easiest on a big screen browser!Make yourself a little list to record the HEX (two character) node numbers of the master and its remotes e.g.:
Living Room 44 (R) 2A 37 (your numbers will of course vary)
Repeat for your other paired 9540/9542s
Now for a little tedium followed by great joy.
Go into the device details on the MASTER and, in the example above, send the following HEX command by clicking on Advanced: 85 01 01 2A and send. You should get a success acknowledgment.
Repeat for the second (up to, but no more than 5) remote. 85 01 01 37
Congratulations. You have just told your master to pair with nodes 2A and 37. Please note you will send two complete 85 01 01 xx packages out - or one or up to five - however many remotes you have for this master, but no more than 5.
Next go into EACH remote node and send the code for the master: 85 01 01 44
You have now told each remote to control node 44.
You can immediately go to the remote(s) and observe that they will control the master. The dimmer works. The indicator lights sync. It's a beautiful thing. No advanced rules, no special drivers, just native ZWave talking to itself. On a couple of remotes I had to press a second time after a short pause to get them to sync. The only thing the Hubitat did, and is doing, is transmitting the ZWave instructions to make this happen. All of the synchronization is being done in the individual devices.
Just did this on 11 masters and 12 remotes. The pairing persists even if the hub goes away. Now - on to the Eaton 5 button Scene Controller - yikes!
Special for ZWave geeks:
Command Structure:Command Class: 0x85 (COMMAND_CLASS_ASSOCIATION)
Command: 0x01 (ASSOCIATION_SET)
Group ID: 0x01 (Group 1 for primary association)
Node ID: 0x2C (Accessory Node ID)
Simplest way to remove an association, exclude/remove and reinclude the remote.
