Does the network id change?

I am wondering if the network id on zigbee devices changes, or do they keep the same one once assigned?

I think it stays the same .. I do not ever seen it different.

Pretty sure the device network ID does change with reset and pairing but the zigbee ID remains the same and how it matches to the existing device record.

I am hoping it does not change, I just started writing it on the devices to help keep track. The zigbee id is too long
I suppose I can assign a unique id

This could also be an option to create/assign your own custom "IDs" for your devices.

Just confirmed it does indeed change. Battery died on one of my contact sensors and I typically reset it when this happens so the battery value updates immediately. Upon doing this and re-pairing it the device network ID did change but again the zigbee ID stays the same.

With the understanding that we all have all our quirks and way of doing things, why do you feel the need to label 'everything?'

I have taken almost the opposite approach. Of my roughly 75 actual devices, exactly 3 have some sort of label on them, and in hindsight, those don't need them either. Hardwired devices get paired and installed in small enough batches that there is little chance for confusion, and post-install testing confirms their location matches what I use as the device name.

Very similar for battery devices, but I will do those in larger batches if necessary. Again, post-pairing testing confirms I know which is which. (Which is a good spot to tell the story of why I have three devices labeled. They are temp sensors of the same model that have some pairing quirks with HE. I labeled them so I could tell them apart when working with them together on the bench, but in hindsight, I'd figure it out pretty quick when my fridge sensor measured 85°, my freezer sensor measured 35°, and my attic sensor measured 0°.)
