How can I tell if a device is still connected or has dropped connection? I've powered down a couple devices to see how I can tell. They stop working, but look as if they are still there. Is there a "lost connection" status anywhere?

There's an app called Device Watchdog that would help. I don't know what having an Xbee would help notify you of something falling off the network. It scans your network but doesn't have any way to notify you of anything to my knowledge.
Last checkin is one indicator.
