Hi! I recently purchase a house where the owner left a Hubitat hub with IRIS contact sensors for home security. I asked the owner to deregister the Hub which he did yesterday. When I open the app it takes my to the get started webpage where it finds the Hub but it is still titled with the old owners title and when I click it it has me login and my login is incorrect (because it wants his login information).
I tried unplugging it overnight and then the app opened with a page saying it found a new hub and for me to name it. I did name it and add the zipcode but when I pressed claim nothing would happen and there was no way to navigate to any other page. I tried deleting the app and redownloading but now I am back to it being named with his old title and looking for his login information.
Is there another way to reset it? Does it take a while to deregister or do I need to ask him to do anything else?
Where are you logging in? If it's my.hubitat.com, the hub registration page, or anything else that ultimately points there, your credentials should work.
However, it sounds like you might be talking about hub login security (screenshots are 2.3.9 and older but same idea on 2.4.0):
That is what would you would see if they had this enabled and you navigate to the hub's IP address in a web browser (or find it using findmyhub.hubitat.com or similar). There isn't an easy way to disable this in a way that lets you keep existing settings without their assistance. If they're comfortable giving you this password (it's local to the hub, not connected to their account at all) or the username and the reset from the "Forgot password" link you should see there should work, then you can disable hub login security in Settings or add your own if you want.
The hub name remains the same even if the hub has been de-registered. If the previous owner de-registered the hub, you will need to be able to log into my.hubitat.com. I would sort out the account, first. Once you are able to log into my.hubitat.com, then go to your hub and if de-registered, you should see a card on Home page to register the hub. If you are already logged in my.hubitat.com, clicking on Register Hub card will seamlessly register the hub with your account.
If you can't see the Home page, then follow the above steps that @bertabcd1234 described.
Thank you for the responses! I can log into my. hubitat. com with this account that I created. When I log in I do not have any registered hubs. When I click find my hub I can find the hub with the old name. When I click connect to Hub it takes me to a login screen and says "The login information you supplied was incorrect." Is the username not just my email? I am typing in the same thing I successfully used to sign in to the webpage. I would attach screenshots for you guys but I am not sure how to. Thank you!
That is the local security login, which is different that my.hubitat.com or the hub's registration for that matter. In that situation you'd need to follow the instructions in this post. Alternatively, you could have the previous owner submit an Account Issue case, by visiting the following page, especially if they already de-registered the hub (since disabling the local security remotely, requires access to the hub via my.hubitat.com): Account Issues – Hubitat Support
Oh! Ok so the username and password that pops up is local, not connected with their account and they would need to give me that information. Is there no way for me to factory reset it or anything without the previous owners assistance? That is what I am understanding.
If you reset it you'd need to start over as new and rebuild your system from scratch. You can send me a private message along with your hub's MAC address (there is a sticker on the hub) and will see what we can do to help.
If you want to keep all the existing devices paired and setup you will want to get logged in without a reset. If you want to start fresh there is a way to reset the entire thing from the Diagnostic Tool. Bobby should get you sorted out.
