[Deprecated] Amazon Alexa Text to Speech (TTS) v0.6.2 - Direct Integration (USA, Canada, UK, Italy, Australia, & Brazil)

I got that about 5 minutes ago. Something similar was brought up in the Echo Speaks thread.

Weird thing is that it only happens with some Echo devices and not others.

I hadn't thought of that but you are correct. I got the message for devices connected to my Ring alarm.

Also not sure exactly what the text is ...

What you stated sounds correct. I just ran a test multiple times and it doesn't always happen. Sometimes it happens on multiple devices and other times only on one of them and sometimes not at all.

It's been noticed by Echo Speaks users too. I just heard it on all of my Echo devices (3 Dots and 1 Show 5).

The thought is that Amazon is messing with the WebAPI and might be blocking the methods used for these HE apps.

So is it saying the message that you’re sending to it but then apending the other phrase

Prepending and appending.

Yep, happening here as well. If this is the end...it was good while it lasted!

I received an IKEA Symfonisk speaker over the holidays, so I’ll probably start moving more of my TTS announcements over to it.

So, this where I did something "smart". All my TTS automations set a global string variable to the value of the desired TTS.

Then I have a single rule that is triggered whenever the string variable changes and sends the string variable to the speech device.

So, I have to change the speech device in a single rule and all my TTS will work again (albeit coming out of different speakers).

Wish I would have thought of that

The "All Echos" (announcement) isn't adding the additional text to what's spoken.

Not too late to change - here's my rule

That is now on my To-Do list for this weekend. :+1:

I might try adding a number or device name to the text string and then parsing it to determine which device to send it to.

Yep, I just noticed this as well. Useful for house-wide broadcasts for things like water leaks, or other alarm conditions.

I've got a couple of TTS announcements that are used one or more times per day. If the Echos keep adding the "Amazon force unit selection" at the beginning and "Less than slash Amazon force unit selection" at the end of any spoken message, while it's sub-optimal, I'll just change my rules to use 'All echos' for now.

I must have missed something. How do I use "All Echos"? Is this just for this app?

Version 0.5.6 added the capability to use the 'Announce' feature of the Amazon Echos via TTS. It'll shows up as the 'All echos' device. You can use the announce directly on the Echo by saying, "Alexa Announce" followed by what you want announced across all your Echo devices and it'll play a recording (not TTS) of what you said.

This is happening for me as well since I came home from work at 3:30 CST - "Amazon force unit selection" No idea when it started though; was fine at 7AM today.

Depending on how many Echos you have, you will force Amazon delays to be applied; I think the max at any given time is 3.

This must be an AMAZON ISSUE, as I use Echo Speaks & not this integration.

Thanks. I'm using Echo Speaks, so that's why I wasn't sure about the "All Echos".
