Cync by GE

Anyone? Saw a post that said these bulbs were bluetooth only hence I would need a bridge. However, I bought 1 and set it up and it is wifi, so I was hoping anyone here could help me get it into my hubitat.

Thanks

Wifi devices usually require that the manufacturer has some sort of API to their cloud service and allows third party apps to connect. And then it requires someone actually write a third party app. You might get lucky and find someone but considering there are tons of alternatives for lightbulbs that do not require custom code you might be better off with an alternative that works natively.

I understand all of that, but the CYNC app links up with Alexa and Google Home so i thought maybe someone might have already figured this out.

Hello, welcome to the Hubitat community!

With a couple of exceptions, it is never a good idea to buy wifi stuff. You are relying on someone else's server to stay up and running as well as the internet being up and running. And that isn't even taking into account the wifi and router issues you will have when you have multiple of these.

If at all possible, I would return these and buy something that can be directly controlled by the hub. The Sengled Zigbee bulbs seem to fairly well regarded, although I have never used them. They appear to be nearly identical in price to the GE.

Unfortunately, that doesn't help much. Alexa and Google Home don't expose devices linked through one integration (eg. CYNC) to other integrations (eg. Hubitat).

You might be able to integrate them with Hubitat-paired sensors using Alexa routines. At the cost of losing speed, reliability, and local control.

There is no open API for the CYNC bulbs... so there is that.

Glad I checked here first. Special today around $7.25 a bulb. Almost pulled the trigger, then I saw Wi-Fi…

Looks like they have made some good progress to get these devices to work with Home Assistant. Unfortunately my coding skills are minimal. Any one have any ideas how hard it would be to use the HA code and convert it to be compatible with Hubitat.
