I’m exploring the possibility of developing native Hubitat drivers for the YoLink Local Hub and its range of devices (contact sensors, leak detectors, temperature/humidity sensors, relays, etc.).
For those unfamiliar, YoLink uses LoRa-based long-range, low-power wireless technology, which offers exceptional range (often 1/4 mile or more) and battery life, and supports a Local API that could allow Hubitat integration without relying on the cloud.
Before I commit significant time to building out these drivers (and potentially the entire YoLink ecosystem for Hubitat), I’m trying to gauge:
How many Hubitat users would be interested in YoLink devices if they had full local integration?
What types of devices in the YoLink ecosystem would be most useful for your setups?
Would local/offline control and the ability to avoid cloud reliance be a deciding factor for you?
I’m also working to show YoLink that there is a strong demand for Hubitat integration in hopes they will support development efforts. Your feedback will help me decide how much time to invest and will also help me provide real-world interest numbers back to YoLink.
If this is something that would interest you — even if you don’t currently own YoLink devices — please reply below and let me know:
If you would consider buying YoLink if Hubitat integration was available
Which devices you’d want supported first
Any must-have features for the integration
Thanks! Your input will directly impact whether this project becomes a full ecosystem integration in Hubitat.
Have Yolink specifically for water leak detection. Would consider other sensors if there were a reasonably priced local hub with Hubitat integration, theirs or yours.
Their sensors join easily and just work.
Since I am a SmartThings refugee I really dislike needing to use the cloud.
So they have a Yolink Local Hub, but curently they are $200, (Which I purchased) and I working on creating drivers so it talks locally to the hub (no cloud needed once device is paired with hub) I also originally go their stuff for the waterleak with rope and the temp/humidity for my freezer.
Probably would be easier to figure out why Matter isn't working since it's also a Matter Bridge, and that should work?
But if you go this route, it's unlikely you'd need dedicated drivers for each device; a parent app or driver would need to do some work to make it work (and that might need to be tailored to each device type), but actual devices could probably use built-in generic component drivers -- just to make that part easier.
Ya tried going that route, but it sounds like hubitat is the issue as it cant find it but other one like HA, google and such do. So until hubitat gets the hub and figures out why then its a bust. And at $200 im not holding my breath.
And as of tonight i have my door contact, temp sensor, and leak sensor connected and reporting via local hub API.
Also yolink is not developing code for hubitat, just workink with HA. Already tried that route also.
And now i have the hub and even fojnd out to to make it have an external antenna which i will be modifying and adding in once the parts from amazon show up.
Just being honest, I would not ever buy a $200 hub to add to Hubitat, with so many options for devices that connect directly without the need to spend another $200. Is there a need with ZWave LR available? I just can't see myself ever being in the use case for this integration.
I just picked up a local hub for testing, so far not what I was hoping for. Just got it today so I will continue to play with it for a few days. In answer to your question, yes I would like to see a HE native way to get info out of the local hub. Goal is to keep everything local, I have used Hue Motions for several years, the 2.4 range is just to full and range is spotty, putting all the zigbee repeaters around m it is just a pain. Good luck and let me know if I can assist. BTW the difference it cost for Yolink motions and Hue motions will pay for the local hub pretty quickly.
Excellent, Can you list the devices you have, I have a contact, temp/mosture, and a leak sensor. And I have got the 3 working and reporting. I have put more development on hold as I have a busy week coming up, but would love to have someone else test the code. I will still need to clean it up alot before I can send.
I did this as I have it in my server rack in my basment, Made a hole to mount the SMA to U.fl/IPX cable, then added the extension and then added the antenna. Now I can reach my full poperty with it still being in my server rack and basment. (Antenna Mounted near Basment Ceiling) (Note: I verified with Yolink prior to getting stuff They were helpfull! )
I am only running 11 motions sensors on the local hub. However I have a HA Yellow that I have setup the Yolink Local Hub's Matter, which actually went pretty easy. I have HA bridged to one of my HE's and response is very good. Next I am going to try and get the Yolink hub into Apple Home to see if I can get it shared with HE thru Matter. Not sure how that will work as the HA shows the sensors as 1 connection with devices, which do not update in HA when a new sensor is added, so not sure how Apple Home will deal with that and pairing. Of course that didn't work, seems like I have never had much luck with HE and Matter. Not sure why.
I am definitely interested. I have several fridges and freezers I need to monitor temps in. They need to be wireless so Yolink gets great reviews for this application. I have tried Zwave but I have no connectivity with those.
