Hello.
I’ll be moving from ST to Hubitat and I’m wondering on the best approach here. Before I begin, I’d like to know if there’s any sort of way to move my routines from ST to Hubitat.
I’m fairly certain there’s isn’t a one click approach as it would be far to complicated as everyone has different routines etc. But if there’s a way to
Somehow make the transition easier in any way I’m all ears.
I know about Mira, and the ability to use both Hubs simultaneously. I thought about this but I can’t even add anymore devices onto my ST as I’ve hit the limit, my main reason for wanting to switch to begin with.
Is there a best practice approach I perhaps don’t know about from Hubitat?
If you were running Webcore on ST you can move a lot of that over. That said, read ther following link. It should help you avoid some gotchas when setting things up. Welcome to Hubitat!
Thanks for that. I used to use webcore but ST stopped supporting it so I dont have any automations on there now.
My only concern is Hue bulbs and some hue switches. Trying to figure the best way to do this. I have the Hue bridge. Do I simply just keep all the bulbs and other things on the hue bridge and connect HE to the hue bridge, meaning i don’t actually add these bulbs and others to HE directly?
That is a fairly common approach and one often recommended, though more so when older bulbs and accessories are involved. I still prefer it due to the additional integrations this makes available through support in various platforms for the Hue bridge.
If you want to still use accessories like motion sensors, dimmer switches and alike in this configuration, or have scenes defined on your Hue bridge, I would suggest looking at the Community developed Coco-Hue or the the Advanced Hue Bridge Integration.
Fair point, I should have mentioned that it is not a requirement that you keep your accessories on the Hue bridge if you choose to keep the bulbs there, just my preference so I can use them elsewhere if I choose.
Yes, Zigbee ZLL 1.2 and zigbee ZHA 1.2 devices (sensors and what not) don't work well together in general because ZLL bulbs make horrible repeater/messengers and can cause problems in the mesh. So it's best to keep zll bulbs isolated to their own mesh using a Hue bridge or another hubitat. The exception to this are Sengled bulbs which do not repeat and zigbee 3.0. Then keep everything else on Hubitat. Another recommendation is to keep hubitat on channel 25, hue on 15 or 20, and your wifi on 6 or below so there is no mesh interference. Following these rules of thumb should allow for a robust mesh. Also not when pairing either zigbee or z-wave, start with mains powered devices and work your way out from the hub, THEN pair your battery devices from the hub out. This will ensure a strong mesh as well.
