I don't want to be picky or anything, but the flames look a little low to me.
Walking the dogs in the neighborhood, three young kids rode by me on actual pedal bikes. No batteries, no power, no speakers blaring.
Two of the bikes looked obviously new, same color and make\model, looked like a couple of brothers got cool new hardware for Christmas.
Just a beautiful sight. I want to find their parents and thank them.
I accidentally made a few grand from bitcoin the first time It reached $100k USD. I’d bought $50 of Bitcoin to pay for an NZB indexer that PayPal had cut off, and the $30 left had been forgotten about till then.
I only checked my wallet when media started talking about how much it gone up. So I cashed out and bought a couple of Xbox One S’s and a few other toys.
GE doesn't make appliances, or actually any consumer products anymore, they sold that off to Haier (China) about five years ago. Haier has a license to use the GE name for 10 or 20 years. So those China servers are probably legit.
One a separate note, what is a network “jail”? How do you set that up? I'm going through networking now as part of a Cybersecurity Bootcamp I'm in.
And this is why i get pissed off every time I look at my $8k property tax bill which 70% goes to the Independent School District (hint Texas isn't as Tax friendly as many are led to believe)l, its almost as bad as Illinois.
I have an untrusted VLAN that I first bring devices into, and I run ntopNG to log network streams for that device. One of the advantages of the pfSense router I am using. I then run various tests on the absolutely minimum needed to keep the device working.
For the oven it was reaching out to AWS for weather and some type of smart recipe service. Tell me again why would I want to see weather and smart recipes on the oven? And if you block the servers in China the app starts to misbehave. For example, the app would let you know when the oven is warmed up and when timers are done and if you block the servers those notification no longer work. As for the short of it I disabled Wi-Fi completely on the oven and told the wife we aren't going to use any of their "Smart" features.
No clue, maybe adjust baking temperature for elevation and Humidity? lol..
We have whirlpool "smart" oven, washer, and dryer, and honestly, I have found them all to be pretty much useless. I have come to the opinion that not every that CAN be smart(ened) should be. What good does it do me to have smart stuff if I still have to get off my lazy butt to push the button to start stuff?
As part of this class, I've been tinkering with Wireshark the last few days, and damn my LG tv's sure are nosey. It is blown up with one of the constantly asking "who is XXX.XXX.XX.XXX? tell XXX.XXX.XX.XXX".
Side note, how do I identify a DNS packet? Im lost on this one..
Not to be pedantic (or maybe just to be pedantic), but as I remember, only some call him Tim.
DNS used to easy Port 53. But now there are all those secured DNS such as DNS over HTTPS (DOH). Start with port 53 with Wireshark that should capture local DNS lookups. But many times, IoT devices will do their own DNS config ignoring the DHCP DNS servers. I know that at one time the Ooma phone service did this.
Fugly ... it would be better on pizza... bet you saw that coming.
I was just looking at a nonsensical Chat GPT-created rule machine rule that someone posted in another thread, and it inspired me to share this epic chatbot fail that I saw on YouTube the other day.
This starts 9 hours and 27 minutes into a long weather live stream. They had promised to give $1000 to a random viewer who submitted a snow report. The host asks his chat bot if it can randomize a list of names of submitters and select a winner. He asks it to make it a dramatic announcement. It failed hard.
For anyone who doesn't want to watch a few minutes of video to get to the punchline, here is what it said word for word:
(edit: apparently I can't do a multi-line spoiler to hide the text. It's MUCH funnier if you watch the video and see it fail in real time vs. reading it below)
"Ladies and gentlemen,
The moment you've been waiting for is here.
Out of all the fantastic participants only one name will emerge victorious.
We're about to select, at random, the winner of this competition
The suspense is building.
The excitement is palpable.
Who will it be?
The drum roll crescendos as we prepare to reveal the chosen name.
And the one who will take it all is
pause for effect
randomly chosen name
thank you"
