I am retired now, but for 30+ years I commuted around 35 miles each way on the interstate. I would usually stick in the far left lane because I was going 10 miles an hour over the speed limit which was 65mph. If I drove in the middle or far right lane, I would be constantly changing lanes which IS dangerous. Invariably I would have someone on my tail not happy that I was doing only 75 in a 65. I have moved over to the center lane, only for the nitwit to take their time passing me, so now I am right behind someone doing the speed limit in the middle lane. So I stay in the far left lane, speeding and ignoring who is behind me,
I still recall my first mini Murican road trip, driving down the coast from LAX to Santa Barbara - I had a V8 Charger RT rental, and was doing 95 Mph in the left lane when some loony in a Prius Prime came flying up to me doing at least 20 Mph more than me. I know this because I got out of his way and then followed him for a few miles before letting him go and dropping back to my previous speed.
EV’s are pretty fast (and have quite the acceleration too!), but you can actually see your battery % go down when you go that fast! Making it super obvious, and something most people will want to avoid…
That said though… that does seem fast for a Prius Prime!!!
Jay Leno famously talks about restoration vs preservation. He prefers seat belts, disk brakes, and power steering, even in his older cars that never had that stuff. It makes the car safer and more fun to drive.
I think at some point we're going to be more likely to see someone electrify an older ICE car. ...or farther into the future, upgrade an older EV with a Mr. Fusion or whatever the latest tech is. The meme isn't considering an EV-to-better-EV restoration project.
Friends of mine are in a local club that "oil-o-fies" ICE autos. They have a car that runs on used oil they pickup regularly from a few local restaurants...
