Specifically will the data pins from the laptop damage or be damaged by whatever may be connected to them on the Hub side.
I donβt think you need to worry about the data pins.
But Iβm not sure all laptop USB ports will put out enough current for the hub. Is it a usb 2 or 3 port?
No, it will be underpowered. USB 2 ports are limited to 0.5A at 5VDC. The C-7 (and C-5) require a power supply that is at least 1A at 5VDC.
My godson's father powered a C-5 this way and was constantly complaining of z-wave issues. I only discovered what he was doing when it died.
Originally my thought was to run the Hub from a laptop so I could turn off the circuit breakers, which in theory would allow me to delete a Z-Wave entry with no matching hardware. I believe it was your post that suggest something similar.
However I had another idea. I
- Shut down the hub.
- completely wrapped it in two layers of aluminum foil
- rebooted and attempted to delete my Z-Wave entry 0x3E (see below).
It didn't work.... So I'm sill stuck with they entry
Do you know what device created that? If so you just need to power off the original device, power cycle the hub then remove.
