Can a Zigbee Relay with Dimming be used for this switch?

I have a two foot LED strip installed under a cabinet over a small counter that I want to control. I want it at a lower intensity (50%) when the room is entered, and raise it to 100% when someone is near the counter

The LED strip is already on a dimmer and dims just fine, so I'm not worried about that. I only want it on at 50% because it's too bright for accent lighting at 100%. There is already an Aqara FP2 MMWave Sensor that does a great job detecting "near" for this case.

The LED strip is hardwired to this Decora toggle dimmer (with a built-in slide dimmer on the side). The LED strip is at the top; the switch is on the right:

I'm wondering if a Zigbee Relay that supports dimming is a possible solution for this. If so, are there any recommendations for ones to use?

I just thought using a relay would be better since those are about US$25, vs. double that for a Zigbee Dimmer Switch.

(I'd also consider Z-wave)

Where's the power supply for the strip? FWIW, I've been using these single-color zigbee dimmers for my LED strips. They sit in between the power supply and the strip.

It's hardwired... somewhere. I think the power supply is built in to the unit. I only see a wire coming out the back and going into the wall right above the switch. At the top of the picture I posted:

I let an electrician install this one strip (that he selected) during our kitchen remodel (all the others are Zigbee strips).

Then you might have to go with your backup plan of using a zigbee or z-wave dimmer switch, since the existing manual dimmer works with your strip?

It's not very likely, but that may be a 0-10V LED P.S./switch your electrician installed. :thinking:

Regardless, the switch swap route will likely end up being the most viable solution for ease of upgrade and reliability.

And probably not significantly more expensive when you include your time. :wink:
