Yes, you would definitely need Hub Protect on the main production hub (the C8 Pro in this case), but you definitely should not need it on the cold/shelf spare C8 hub.
I guess we just need to just be patient and see what the final/official answer is.
Just to be clear, I'm talking about the special case of migrations from an existing "previous version" hub to newer version hub (e.g., C7>C8/C8-Pro, C8>C8-Pro). Upgrading to a newer version hub. Those migrations do not require hub protect on either hub.
Maybe. I upgraded to see if this helps with Roku and Hue loads overall. But it could also be that the load isnβt actually a load so much as a sequential blocking operation waiting in network / device activity. When a device or app is reported as using a % of CPU, itβs not actual CPU load so much as CPU time. Hoping to see better results, but not expecting it.
I agree - there is no information on the website, all the videos are just for the C8 (and that's still in my cupboard after failing to work with my devices, but they work on the C7) and as others have said wasn't this said about the C8 ?
It's amazing they launch a product and there's no promotion sheet on the website
Oh, I'll use it... It will mainly be used to extend the period between when I need to reboot as free memory slowly goes down.
That's not meant as a "dig" on hubitat rather a statement that on my hubs, in my config, the memory steadily decreases forever until I have to reboot. Extra memory will extend that period for me greatly.
I'm hoping it extends it out far enough that I basically don't worry about it anymore at all. It only has to make it from one firmware update to the next after all.
We'll see.
Other than that, I think I would have been just fine staying with the regular C8. The extra CPU speed wasn't really a driver for me as much as memory.
thats what I was saying before. i mean, if its faster or more powerful, make a case to buy one, not just hey.. "look at some numbers that we have nothing to backup" kinda push out.
I love my HE, and I understand they run on a shoestring budget, but give a few pre-production units to some Home automation guys, and have them give some tests the day that its released.
There is always going to be a better hub coming down the road. I think this Hub is designed to solve a problem for some of us that have overworked hubs. If your hub is working perfectly for you then this is not an upgrade that you need. I am glad that they made this hub so that I have an option when I have an overloaded installation.
You may have me beat by 1 hub. Not sure anymore, I would have to open the drawer of misfit devices and count how many C7s I actually have in there. I only carry hub protect on my main production hub (now a C8 Pro).
I have:
3x C8
2x C8 Pro
and some undisclosed number of C7s (I think 2x, but it might be 3x...).
