How certain are you that it stops exactly when the updates come out? Or is just that the automations stop working so you log into the hub and there happens to be an update waiting?
By your logic it would have stopped precisely on these dates when updates came out:
12/23/24 (2.4.0.142)
12/24/24 (2.4.0.143)
12/26/24 (.144)
12/31/24 (.145)
1/06/25 (.146)
I did find those other threads before I submitted this question. One of the recommendations was to delete/truncate the saved logs, so I did that. For that reason I can't go back and look at logs for those days there were updates, but I can confirm that I had a hub freeze every one of those days. I just don't have logs any longer to see those dates.
I do go into the UI frequently as the unit is only a few months old and I'm often making new routines and fine tuning things I've set up. I understand staff have declared it impossible for the update and the hub freeze to be related. I've also seen that the prior submissions received direct support from staff to fix their problem, and nobody ever came back and said "it was fixed by staff and they confirmed it was something else." So I'm trying to state what I can see happening, and looking for the same level of support that fixed the problem for other users.
Both of these instances seem to have outside help looking closely to resolve the problem. I also went ahead and truncated the logs, so there is nothing available that far back to look at. The other recommendation provided, to turn off Zigbee radio, I cannot do because I use Zigbee. I did turn off my unused ZWave to see if that would be helpful in a similar way.
So then at the end of December the hub was ceasing to run automations nearly every day?
Does it ever have the problem when no updates are available? Like between 12/31 and 1/6, it worked flawless that whole time and then as soon as the .146 update came out all automations stopped working on 1/6 ?
Correct. It was like groundhog day, I was astounded. To get automations to run again, my ritual was to install the update and then reboot the hub (at least once, sometimes more) to get it responding again.
It does not have this problem any other time. I did have some devices with spotty connectivity, but I spent time rotating through Zigbee channels to fix that. This is different though, it's a whole hub functionality issue.
