C7 hub in use here in my home for several years with few to no issues along with approx 132 Zwave devices, no Zigbee or others. Hub, fiber modem and WiFi router all powered by UPS. House powered by Generac generator. Approx 2000 hrs last night I did a manual backup and updated the hub from version 2.4.0.142 to 2.4.0.144. Later last night (this morning) we had an hour long power failure. UPS and Generac operated as designed. Today I noticed various Zwave issues, unresponsive devices, etc. I did a hub shut down then powered it down for 15 minutes and back up. No change. Tried that again later and no change. I did not test every device, but here are some symptoms:
Dome Zwave door sensors: Seem to work, dashboard status updated with open and closed
GE light switches and dimmers: I cannot control from dashboards. Just get hour glass and no response. BUT, if I turn the light on at the switch the dashboard updates with on or off status
Kwikset door locks: No response to lock / unlock from dashboard and no status updates to dashboard when manually locked/unlocked
Dome water alarms: They detect water, notify Alexa and Pushover but dashboard status never updated either wet or dry
Any ideas? Do I need to revert to previous version on hub?
I would recommend checking each of these to ensure that they are working correctly at the switch, and then use the airgap switch to reset them and see if that restores z-wave function. It is not unheard of for z-wave switches (especially older Jasco devices) to fail after a power outage.
Yes, I did a refresh before capturing the screen shots and posting then this morning. After posting them I started another round of testing and it appears things are again magically working,,,. I have not tested 100% but I have checked most items and they appear to be working. Another nugget for the symptom pile: Last night I also could not go into "devices" and turn on or off anything, and I could not use the dashboard buttons to turn things on or off, but as explained before, if i physically clicked on the switches I could turn everything on or off and the status's would update on the dashboards. They would not update on the devices page for each device, though. I have no explanation. I hope you or someone here can. Weird. Here is a collage of the topology,
Moments ago everything quit responding again. I discovered this as I started going around and pulling the air gaps. They (lighting) all worked at the switches, but not from the dashboards, A few minutes later everything started working again. I did finish my rounds and pulled most of the air gaps. As I did this the blue LED extinguished, Pushing the air gap back in and the LEDs came back on as expected.
Everything that was not working started working. Then they quit for several minutes. Now working again. See posts to rlithgow1, Any ideas? Very erratic.
Topology looks OK, not great, but not showing the issue I was thinking you might have. Looks like you have a spread out mesh which is fine especially if it was working fine before.
Have you power cycled the hub? Shut down and pull power for 30 seconds? This is the only way to restart the z-wave radio if it is jammed up.
You might have a device in a death spiral spamming out garbage. Sometimes you can ID these by going to z-wave details and open the logs. It is live logs so you have to just keep it open for 15-30 minutes and see if there is any constant chatter from a single device.
If that does not work I am not sure how other people have found which GE/Jasco device is on its death bed. Process of elimination maybe? You have a lot of devices so this might take a while to figure out.
