Yeah this is what I do/ use. I updated it's firmware aswell and just pull it out when needed.

Yeah this is correct. Unfortunately it was a requirement to get certification to be like this.
If it's a S2 device then you get the opportunity to select the security, but ironically a S2 device are fine joined S2 authentication. So we are stuck doing the work around for the old devices.
