You guys got IRIS V1 Zigbee pairing working great now in the later C7 builds. Is the IRIS position still that IRIS V1 pairing will not come to C8?
Iris v1 devices cannot be paired with the C8/C8-Pro hubs. Those hubs have a much newer Zigbee 3.0 radio/controller that cannot pair the non-standard Iris v1 Zigbee devices.
I would consider replacing those old Iris v1 devices with modern, standard, Zigbee 3.0 devices.
I have some of the V1 buttons, and the wife likes them so I have to keep them around. I just leave 'em on my C7 and share them to my C8-Pro via Hub Mesh if I want to add them to any automations running on the C8. They've been sitting on the C7 for ages now, don't cause me any issues, extremely reliable for me. ![]()

The list indicates the IRIS V1 devices are compatible, it this what you are pointing out? They will not pair with C8
I do not believe it is impossible. If the platform can support running V1 devices restored from a backup it can support pairing. Probably difficult but not impossible.
The quality of some of these V1 devices is unmatched. I have many of the contact sensors in use outdoors, in freezers, etc. Easy to modify them to be light sensors, float level sensors and hardwired contacts. The buttons and smart plugs are bulletproof compared to what is available, and they are dirt cheap.

Let me qualify that. It is incompatible with Zigbee 3.0 SoCs from Silicon Labs (like the one Hubitat uses in the C-8/C-8 Pro, or HA used in the HA Yellow), and it is incompatible with TI's CC26x2. Don't know about any others, but these are the ones that are commonly available.
Well that sucks. Guess I'll ride my C7s till they die.
Silicon labs could do it...not impossible.
The good news is that over time C7s will likely become cheaper and cheaper ... you can always pick up a spare C7 at some point if you have enough V1 devices around that it makes sense to you to keep supporting them. ![]()

I won't pretend to understand the "magic" that makes this migration happen, but I guess the required technology needed to pair V1 devices is missing on the C8, and V1 devices only port over because they have established clusters/addresses already captured using the older tech on the C7. Does this sound semi cognizant?
I mean you could simply keep the v1 devices on the c7 and put everything else (including all automations) on a C8p and simply use hub mesh to share them to the c8. This way you get the best of both worlds as well as c8p only stuff.

So you think Hubitat simply hiding the pairing button from the newer hubs to prevent them from accepting Iris devices?
- It is easier for them somehow to have multiple code branches and multiple UI?
- It is easier for them to have to explain over and over again to customers why the newer hubs can't pair with Iris?
- They want to advertise they took away a feature on the newer hubs?
- It is easier to document the differences?
All this sounds like your tinfoil hat is a bit too tight.
I was doing Beta when this issue was discovered. This is before the public release of the hub. Originally the button was present for Iris pairing, but devices failed to pair. They wanted this to work, but it did not. In fact we spent a lot of time trying to fix it so it did work. Staff studied my hub and the hub of a couple other testers around this issue and it was determined the newer chip simply does not work with Iris and it cannot work with Iris.
I am not a software engineer, but I concur with this theory.
This is what I do, only with my C5. I have a C7 I could use as well but I chose the C5 for "reasons". I am an advocate of segregating problematic or incompatible devices and problematic integrations on a secondary hub.
At one point I even used the C5 to prepare Z-wave devices to pair with my C8, it was quicker to run these in parallel in that situation, one excluding while the other was including.
Having two or more hubs can be useful.
my response was meant to say "I know." Everyone knows you can share devices across hubs. I have 3 active hubs and have been using hubitat since Feb 2019.
NO. I believe them. It takes like 1 minute of research to see the 3.0 chip cannot pair with a V1. But pairing directly with the chip isn't the only solution. There are probably a dozen ways to run a V1 device on a 3.0 chip.
I can think of one off the top of my head:
- You could create and export V1 device function that runs on a C7. Then create a function to add it to the C8 database, removing the need to "pair" with the 3.0 chip.
