So about a month ago, my C-5 randomly crashed (blinking blue light) for seemingly no reason. I unplugged it, got to the diagnostic tool, performed a soft-reset and restore. Everything had been working fine for a month until today.
Woke up to no automations. C-5 shows blinking blue light.
The Diagnostic Tool loads up but seems to immediately crash before I can perform any recovery operations..
I tried performing a soft reset, but it just hung on the "Rebooting" screen and now the diagnostic tool won't load up at all anymore.
Any ideas on what the next step is should be?
I would try another USB power brick and cable to rule out that as a possible cause.

Make sure the brick is 1A or larger

I'm using the original power brick and cable but it is quite old now so maybe worth a shot.
I would most certainly try it. My first thought was power.
It seems this might have solved the problem. Plugged directly into the USB outlet on my one of my leviton wall outlets and dragged a long network cable to it but I was able to get it to the diagnostic tool and it hasn't crashed yet during the soft reset.
Hubitat documentation is always so adamant about using their plug and cable that I was hesitant to try another power source. Seems like the original brick is no longer functioning properly.
Yeah it happens .. just get a good USB .. and you should be good
Successfully reset and restored.
Hopefully that's the end of the problems.
I threw away the original power brick and connected it up to a spare Apple ipad power brick I had laying around and it's still stable at the moment...

I believe that’s mostly to avoid issues caused by use of other USB power supplies that don’t meet the hub’s needs.
Any power supply could go bad eventually though, which it sounds like may have happened in your case.
Glad to hear the hub itself may still have some life left in it!

Looks like a replacement power supply solved your problem. If you are happy with your C-5 you likely do not have too many devices or automations on it. If that is the case you might want to document what you have and pick up a spare C-5 or C-7 for $50 or less on eBay. Good chance you can get a C-5 here on the forum for free + shipping.

I'm curious why you think the C5 can only handle a few devices and automations. I have 332 devices & 467 automations running on a C5 and don't experience any delays in execution.

I have a C-8 Pro as well. They work together. C-5 has only rule machine on it and doesn't host any devices or have any radios enabled, it only does automations. The C-8 Pro hosts all the devices and services but doesn't do any automations, only basic on/off functionality.
Also, the C-5 has identical memory and and CPU to the C-7 and C-8 so it should process automations identically and equally fast.
Yes, that is correct. However, your C8-Pro's CPU is significantly faster than the CPU in the C5/C7/C8. I used to use multiple HE hubs to divide up the workload. After adding the C8-Pro to the mix, I consolidated everything on to one hub. It has handled everything I have thrown at it thus far without missing a beat.
I use my C8 and C7 as development hubs. My C3 is sitting in the drawer for now - always ready to be put back in service should duty call!

I thought about this, but I decided to keep my complicated automations and beta on the C-5. I like to tinker, so I need a way to separate them so that if a beta platform or automation I made borks things, it's super easy to hit a button that just disable Rule Machine on the C-5 without breaking any basic or critical functionality.
Gotta keep the Wife from seeing things broken, or else I get yelled at...
