Best of both worlds - Hubitat + Z-Way

Appreciated. I'd love to see how easy this is to implement in the RaZberry route.

I get many of the same benefits using Open Zwave Control Panel and a Zwave stick. OZWCP uses the open-source version of the Zwave stack so it may be a part of the issue. When added to HE as a secondary, I can control my lights etc and see the state of everything from the OZWCP interface, I don't, however, have any control of any barrier devices (locks and garage doors). I am sure that is because I don't get the network security key from HE. I can't see all your devices so I don't know whether you have or can control secure devices?

@zarthan, I forgot to mention this, but your right. This is another expert feature that HE does not support, so the devices included into HE in secure mode wont be controllable as the secondary controller does not have the keys..

Official support for a secondary controller would include a method for transferring the network security keys.
The first time I joined OZWCP to HE, I was giddy turning things off on one platform and on in the other. Then I shut down the HE hub and could still do everything with OZWCP, except the barrier devices.

Which, in my opinion, is why it would be better to just move the devices to z-way entirely, and make an integration to bring them back into hubitat (if needed). Z-Way supports all of the zwave functions today, like S2 and smart start, too...

But as many of you know, I'm getting a little impatient on the closed source parts of hubitat and am moving as much as I can to more open systems. So my opinion is biased. I find open zwave a little archaic/slow to evolve, so I am going to be testing z-way extensively for future migration consideration.

That said, for those that want to use Hubtat as their logic hub, or dashboard, or glue between systems - a z-way integration could be pretty handy.

This was going to be my initial project, to create a z-way binding and directly remove the need to manage the devices from HE all directly.

Using the Z-WAY + A custom app in HE I can discover, import and controller all the devices from HE using the Z-WAY API's.
I have already checked the API 's and everything that is needed is there, I just need time to code

If something want to help with this initiative, you are more them welcome!

I'm much more likely to go z-way to node-red or home assistant at this point. So probably not much help with hubitat integration.

I have done this as well, I've migrated all my Zwave back to Vera and controlled through Node Red with Virtual Devices in Hubitat only until I get the Sonos TTS working to my liking in Node Red, that is the only thing I haven't been able to get working in Node Red efficiently. After I get that figured out I shouldn't even need the virtual devices.

If Vera ever gives me problems I may look at Z-Way

I've used this for Sonos TTS with several platforms and it's great

I'll give it a shot, thanks!

Well, z-way might not work for me either.

As I was searching for specific devices on their forums I see it does not work with the gocontrol gc-tbz48l thermostat. And the developers are kind of shitty about to - "contact manufacturer"/not our problem, even though it works fine on at least 5 zwave controllers I have access to. If I want that attitude, I already get that from some existing solutions i use.

So, I guess I'll pass for now, and go back to concentrating on open z-wave again.

Love this idea...where do I sign?

@syepes - this looks fantastic

What are you running the UZB on? a raspberry Pi or a computer?

I noticed that Z-Way supports Enocean as well... is there a way to send commands from HE to the UZB to Z-Way to trigger EnOcean commands? (and the reverse as well?)

Yes it's possible the API is pretty good, I have done some minor test and we can mostly control all z-way from it's API.
I am still reading up on these dev docs and it's looking promising.

@AdamV, I am running it on a raspberry pi 4 + the USB ZWave.

thats promising - been wanting to replace my wall switches with enocean controllers for a while... watching this space!

That's interesting. I've had pretty good dealings with them myself.

I will say that PoltoS came back with a more detailed response on the situation. No solution, but I'll say that my interpretation of their apparent disinterest was incorrect and likely due to translation/language barrier.

It is tough to proceed, though, because if a device does not complete the interview process in z-way, you are screwed.

I am unable to add the UZB Z-Wave device to the hub. How did you do it?

Not sure which user you are asking, but I don't have my z-way stick on my Hubitat zwave network - I have it on a separate zwave network.

I am trying to follow the directions given by syepes so that I can manage/troubleshoot my main network (Hubitat) with Z-way. I am unable to include the USB stick.
