Any luck that Hubitat will fix the battery level readout in the app. Even with brand new Lithium batteries, or with 100 % fully charged rechargeable batteries, the readings in the app are completely wrong. Its a bit annoying because we cant rely on these numbers.
This is not a Hubitat problem; it's just telling you what the devices report. Search the forum or the Internet at large, and you'll find lots of reports on the same as well as reasons that it's difficult in the first place (e.g., nonlinear discharge curves on batteries that are often used in these types of devices).
Ha, that is word-for-word what I was going to type, but then noticed you were already responding.
Also, the device will report battery level it is seeing at that moment but with Lithium batteries that can change drastically very quickly. They can go from 100% to basically dead in a matter of minutes. The device will never report that.
Case in point. I have a motion sensor that it's last report was 100%. Sometime between it's next report 4 hours later the battery gave up the ghost. Since the device stopped reporting due to the exhausted battery the system still showed 100% and I never got a notification. This is no fault of Hubitat. Just the nature of the game.
This is why battery percentage is a tool and that is all it is. It is never reliable. It is just SOMETIMES and indicator. I am currently getting ready to adopt @bertabcd1234 Device Activity Check application to work with my battery monitoring. This will be a much better indicator of devices that are given up and not reporting.
This works perfectly.
Agree. Had a contact sensor at 11 percent for 3 months and then it was gone. DAC let me know.
Cant find that app !
If you haven't already, first install [RELEASE] Hubitat Package Manager (HPM) -- HubitatCommunity. Then use that to install Device Activity Check.
I have it run a report at 6 pm everyday that way I can change any batteries that have failed after dinner. I watch the battery level of a few devices that seem to be rather consistent in reporting that way I know that the device is going to go dark sooner than later.
I do monitor the battery level of my lock and keypads and replace these batteries before they quit.
This one app does all of these things. It's one of my favorites
