Audio notification

I have a couple Google home/mini and want to automate when the washer turns off it will play a message through them , have the washer plugged into a Aeon Labs metered outlet
I have made a rule but am unable to get it connected to Google home

only my phones are listed.

Thanks for any help

Do you have the Chromecast integration installed?

no but when I get home I will get that connected and retry

integrated Chromecast Bat, but still only mobile phones showing in Notification Devices list

There is a Notifications App that will do this. But it doesn't look like the energy monitors can be used to trigger them (which you could do via a rule).

But to solve your issue, don't use notify in the rule. Use the "Send, Speak or Log a Message" action. Select "Send or Speak a Message", then on the next page enter your message and slide the "Speak this message?" to on and then you will be able to select the Google speaker (make sure the Chromecast integration is on).

You should see this option in Rule Machine under:

A section for choosing speech devices.

And you first have to choose your Chromecast device(s) to make available in HE, in the Chromecast Integration:

Sounds like you are already on the right track but in case it helps here’s how I’m doing it at the moment.

I am using Hubitat’s built-in app, “Chromecast Integration”, to populate the device in Hubitat.

Because I was being lazy when I set it up I just have my washer/dryer conveying status as a generic virtual (on/off) switch linked from my SmartThings hub right now.

With the google mini now showing up in Hubitat on the devices page as well as the washer switch communicating from SmartThings...

I’m using Hubitat’s built-in app, “Notifications” to manage the actual interaction between the two devices but as mentioned above if you’re trying to trigger from an energy monitor you’d probably need to use rule machine instead.

Anyway, below is a screenshot of the audio notification section as I have it now. Eventually I’ll get bored enough to leverage the device name via variables and eliminate the smartthings hub as a middle man but this has been doing the job without issue for a few months now.

Anyway, good luck!!

*UPDATE this setup failed to work, so trying another device, see a few post down

Thank you ALL
for your help and info < based on what you all have showed me, i think I have it setup
Just waiting for them to use the washer to test

Just a suggestion, set up IP reservations in the router for your Google Assistants.

okay the outlet I'm using in this setup is a Aeon Labs dsc06106-zwus and in TYPE it is set as Zooz Power Switch, the power consumption does not change unless I manually hit refresh, once refreshed and the power level is returns to 0 then the audio trigger works, as you can see in the first image all of the variables, in the second image you can see the rule setting

Good day
I set IP reservations in the router for my Google Assistants
now I'm getting a the Google Homes keep repeating the message I set.
any suggestions
note I am using a Aeon labs Home Energy Monitor G1 i think it is, had to add code to see both energy clamp readings

Setting the reservation has nothing to do with the messages being sent. Reserving the IP just makes sure that your router doesn't assign a new IP and your assistants become inaccessible.

As to why your getting repeat messages, I would first look at how often the Aeon energy meter is reporting power. When the Aeon sends a power report, and it's less than 8 (per your rule), you will get an audio message. So if the Aeon reports the power is 5.7,then reports 5.6, then reports 5.5 etc. your message is going to repeat.

I have adjusted the Aeon HEM to the below settings "Don't send unless watts have changed by this many watts Clamp = 75" and still getting audio message played

I'm still inclined to believe it's the HEM sending multiple reports but turn on logging for your rule and post the logs. These HEM's can have a mind of their own sometimes. I have 2. Without the logs, though, I can only guess as what is happening.

I dont see anywhere to enable logging, i only see events

forgot to mention I uploaded this code

SmartThings Device Type for Aeon Home Energy Monitor v1 (HEM v1)

  • (Goal of project is to) Displays individual values for each clamp (L1, L2) for granular monitoring
  • Example: Individual circuits (breakers) of high-load devices, such as HVAC or clothes dryer
  • Original Author: Copyright 2014 Barry A. Burke

In the rule that is speaking to your assistant there should be an option to turn on logging.

this is only after about 5 minutes of putting the rule back into normal mode from pause

It looks like the notification is being triggered when the energy monitor is sending a report. Which is what I thought was happening.

Screenshots are a lot easier to read than copy & paste. I would also like to see logging from the aeon device too but it doesn't look like that device handler that's most likely been ported from Smartthings has that option.

Something looks weird to me. Please post a screenshot and not copy and paste, maybe there is something I'm not seeing.

What I'm seeing in the logs doesn't seem to correspond to the rule you posted.

Maybe someone else can spot something I'm missing too.

Yep, everytime the aeon sends a power report it's causing the audio message.

I am by far but an expert here but I think your first order of business is to fix (or find a different driver). That driver your using is throwing all kinds of errors. Maybe that's the problem? Based on the rule you posted above I don't see why your getting multiple messages. You have it set for less than 9 but the values that are triggering the message are greater than 8. Something doesn't add up here.

While you troubleshoot this why don't you use the built in driver. You might also try deleting the rule and creating it again. Maybe something in the rule is messed up. I really think the driver throwing all the errors needs to be addressed though.
