Attempting to migrate to C8 from VeraPlus

Have C8 Pro registered, shows up with browser GUI, phone. Have tried for several days now to get a Leviton RZM10 dimmer to include. Thought I had at one point, but commands did nothing, so I excluded it, tried again. I have not since gotten it to include, and suspect the C8 may have briefly included something else, which is why commands didn't work.
Have now tried this with a second RZM10 (we have eight of the darned things). Have excluded, done factory reset, set them in Leviton's alleged "pairing mode", no luck. Tried including one of them back into the V+, worked immediately.
Any suggestions on how to proceed with these dimmers and C8 Pro? If this is not doable, the C8 may have to go back, as we have a lot of Leviton switches and dimmers of about the same (ancient) vintage. Was trying to get us off of Vera before Ezlo turns off the servers for it. If I have to replace all these switches and dimmers to get the house working with the C8, I may as well replace them with something other than z-wave. We have a lot of sunk cost into z-wave, but if the stuff's too old to keep using, I can cut it loose.

I have no idea if those old devices work with an 800-series zwave controller. Even if they do, they will not provide a good UX.

New modern 800-series zwave devices are not terribly expensive (~$30). Personally, I prefer Lutron Caseta for all my switches and dimmers. These also work very well with Hubitat.

Yes, it has occurred to me that the C8 is only talking z-wave+, and almost all of my devices are "old zwave". If I am going to have replace those devices to get them to work with the C8, I'll return the C8 and replace stuff with Matter-over-Thread equivalents as they become available. Was hoping to use Hubitat as a bridge from old to new, but if I have to keep the VeraPlus up and running to use all the existing z-wave in the house, it's a bridge to nowhere for us.

i came from a vera system a few years ago. Forced to find a new solution as my vera died suddenly one day. Done my research and ended up with the hubitat. The different system took a good few hours getting used to the new environment but i can say now i would not go back to vera system and, once you get your head around it, the HE is far superior and a better system. Further to that, these forums have very helpful so support is at hand.
Anyhow...
Many of my "z wave" (not plus) units migrated ok, though sometimes had to use the wrong driver to access functions. There were a couple of z-wave devices that didnt work with hubitat. Even though the z-wave plus devices worked ok, many of these had to use alternative drivers to get them working.
You may end up having to bin a few of those old z-wave devices but first try generic drivers if you are able to add them to your network.

So another (perhaps relevant) question: in Hubitat z-wave settings there's an option to choose US non-LR versus what the device started out on, US-LR. If I use the pulldown and choose non-LR and hit "update settings", I get a twirly "I'm doing something" pop-up, and then after a minute, it goes away. And the setting is back to US-LR. Is this setting a placebo on the C-8 Pro?

It's an unfortunate UI thing, but nothing actually wrong.

The US-LR option is for C-8 and 8-Pro hubs only (800-series ZW chips), and it's the only selection they can use (for US).

The non-LR option is for C-7 and below, and it's the only option those hubs can use (for US).

It would be great if that menu dynamically removed whichever option you can't use, but it doesn't -- if you try to select the non-applicable one, it just won't actually stick (as you already found out).

ETA -- the US-LR option doesn't force you into using LR or anything like that, it just makes LR available to use.

So which Hubitat worked for you? I may have jumped too far getting a C-8 Pro with my comparatively ancient (mostly series 300) device farm. The docs all say everything is backward compatible, but I certainly know it's not forward compatible.

i went for the C7 as that was the only/latest model at the time of purchase.
The C8 came out a year or so later and i have not had the need to change to a C8

Turn off your vera system, factory reset the switch and attempt pairing again.

Can you post your entire z-wave details page?

Also take a look at this. It will help avoid some gotchas. Pay attention to the z-wave section

Thanks. I've swapped in a VRE06 for the ancient 100-series VRM10, and it included fine and works fine. I am willing to ditch the 8 VRM10s in our house...everything else appears to be on the supported list (except the VRE06, which I know works). So I have some new dimmers inbound to replace the VRM10s...in some multi-way circuits, I'll swap in VRE06s or VRMX1s, so the crazy Leviton companion dimmers will still be of use. There are still some things that may not be supported in the house, but not many.

I think I am good to blunder onward now.

Watch out for ghosts. If you ever have a failed pairing STOP! Check for and remove any ghost created (see link I posted above)

Honestly, this is still a bit of a Charlie Foxtrot. Get zwave plus gear and enjoy it without screwing around with a very unstable “standard “.

@rlmalisz

I'm in agreement with what Derek said. With the addition that Zigbee fear works well with Hubitat too. And if you're in the US, Lutron ClearConnect devices are rock-solid.
